I know this is a Chevrolet Impala Forum, but i'm very torn between the Impala Premier and the 2019 Avalon Limited. I will say that the Impala looks better exterior wise. I'm in the market an I want this car that I choose to be the last car for awhile to the wheels fall off. It just seems like the Premier got so many features for the money. As far as the Avalon, it got that classy look and elegance. Both are good cars it appears. I never test drove the current Impala, so I don't know how it rides. What do you guys think

Well, if you get the Impala, you can come here and talk about it, and ask questions. Whereas, if you get the Avalon, and you ask questions about it here, you're probably not gonna get as much help

Seriously, I haven't heard many complaints lately about the current Impala. It's built on a platform - epsilon II - that's been around for a while, and the engine and transmission are both well established. The 6-speed tranny gets good remarks, and the 3.6L, direct injection motor can make over 300 HP. So folks seem to like it, especially drivers with a heavy right foot

HTH.

I personally love our '15 Impala and wouldn't drive an Avalon unless it was free, it just looks awful.
It is way too expensive a decision for people on the internet to make for you though. Go out and look and drive both cars and decide for yourself.

You're giving up 40hp and 40ft/lbs of tq with the Toyota; tough to pick slower for me.

Avalon's got an ugly looking front end, maybe if it had 40 MORE of each above, I'd think about it, but for me, between the ugly and slow, I'd pass.

Shop Car Guru for a CPO Impala, and see if you can't see yourself in the GM, for the features vs. the money.

https://www.toyota.com/configurator/...lon/model/3544

I've looked at the '18 Camry, same upgly front end, but seemingly having the same hp as Impala, and within 10ftlbs of the tq.

The XLE V6 is the Toyota version of an LTZ, and it seems to have many more color choices than Avalon.

I've considered it, for the future; I've been trying to line up what there is for me down the road outside of GM.

I've also looked at the Kia Stinger GT or better, snazzy ride, a bit more money.

If I had the extra cash Maxima would have been my choice. nice body lines, features, horsepower. Between the 2 you listed the Impala is a nicer looking car but I'm pretty sure the Toyota will last much longer.

If you looking for longevity, 200K miles without repairs, chances are the Avalon beats the Impala.

One other thing you may want to consider is the new car bumper to bumper warranty, how many Miles and Years does the Avalon have to offer...

The 2019 Toyota is a new design and if you are looking for a car at the beginning of it's lifespan and more luxury I'd get that. But personally I like the Impala better it just needs an update which may not be coming

I rented a 2018 Impala and the only thing that drove me crazy is the transmission gearing. Switching from 1-2 gears at 10mph is way too early and I felt like I had to stomp on the pedal to get it to shift at better points, but I guess its a trade off from being a complete gas guzzler in the city. Im pretty sure the Avalon will be better geared than the Impala since its a smaller engine and the resale will be better on a Avalaon vs Impala because they always are, but that front grill ruins that Avalon big time. I can only see that car in all black being decent looking. Toyota gets a F on Front grill designs now adays.

If I'm not mistaken won't the Avalon run on rice too.

Personally I'm not a Toyota fan, which is the extreme minority it seems in this country. However, for me the Impala is the nicest riding modern day car I've driven, in my opinion. OP, you're already commented on how you like the exterior looks of the car and I would agree. It is about time Chevy put some style back in the Impala. As for the interior, it is very comfortable and roomy. The quality of the parts have held up well on mine and I've taken it on multiple halfway across the country drives (PA to MO and back). The seats are good for long drives, the interior craftsmanship looks like a higher end car to me, the ride rides more like the cars of old where it floats down the road, and the interior noise is almost nothing. Every Toyota that I drive feels clunky, cumbersome, and low quality to me. I am sure the higher end ones have a little more to them to justify their added price similar to the Premier editions for Chevy, but I have never been impressed with how Toyota rides, the seat comfort, the ease of use of their "bells and whistles" and for that reason I would stay away and go with the Impala. You won't be disappointed!

I looked at the new Avalon at the Detroit auto show. I was thinking surely it will have a better looking grill as I approached from the side. Wrong! It was even uglier than the current model. I've never driven an Avalon, but have driven several Camry's, which weren't all that great. Maybe you should go try out an Impala equipped the way you want, and then an Avalon the same way. Then buy the one you like best. Don't worry so much about which one is best on paper. They're both good cars.
