Cool 2009 impala ltz 3.9

i have a 3.9 impala and cant decide whether its even worth building it up for performance? or just for looks. ive had it for two years and all ive done is a k&n air filter and from the cat back, a 3" dynomax exhaust.

The best thing to do would be to get a tune from Will at Overkill Motorsports and cut 1 of the springs from your accelerator pedal then be done, that would really wake up your Impala and I think you'd be vary happy with it. Otherwise any other modifications are going to cost you a lot of money and hardly anyone has explored the out comes

My Impala did a 15.6 sec in a 1/4 mile with a tune and 3.69 FDR, that was with a slipping off the line transmission. I now have a newer transmission in as of last month and it feels like it's holding more power but I won't know till the track opens up next year again. I'm actually set up to go to the dyno this coming Wednesday to see were I'm making power at so I can get a higher stall speed converter matched and ordered, I'm going to keep going and see how far I can push the 3.9L

I think I'm one of the only few who thinks the 3.9L has potential were everyone else has given up and moved onto the 3.6L and with good reason....... I guess I'm just stubborn lol

2012 Impala LT(fleet)
Modifications: GMPP front slotted rotors, 35% window tint all around and all weather package

2010 Impala LT(fleet)- [email protected] on 8/5/14(totaled)
Modifications: 3.9L(LGD) swapped, 3.69 FDR, GMPP ride handling package, 35% window tint all around, modified gas pedal, all weather package and tuned by Overkill Motorsports

Cut one of the springs does what exactly? Just curious I haven't heard anything about that before. I'm guessing it just makes the pedal feel less stiff?

Yes, cutting one of the 2 springs makes the gas pedal less stiff. There's actually a current thread on this, for some reason 08+ Impala's received a stiffer accelerator pedal from the factory.

I'm sure cutting it to relieve half of the tension is more of a psychological thing as far as it feeling faster but I really feel doing the mod gives more control back to the driver and takes away that delayed acceleration as cutting off the one spring is theoretically allowing you to move the pedal down at twice the rate.

When the track opens back up in spring I'll do a couple back to back test with a modified and stock accelerator pedal and see if anything changes, I'd think if anything were to change it would be a slight increase in my 60 footers as long as I can maintain traction.

Otherwise cutting one of the springs made my car feel like a whole new vehicle and my car has had an overkill tune for a little over half a year.
