5.3 AFM problem.

My 2008 SS runs fine In 4CYL MODE but when slowing down and It's about to switch back to V8 It shudders sometimes violently. At first I thought It was the tranny but l unplugged the brake booster sensor and that disabled the AFM and It never happened while In V8, so that ruled the trans out. There's no codes. Do the AFM solenoids wear out? Im at 157k

AFM on the 3.9 and 5.3 have been a source of issues for people on these forums. there are many posts under motor or drive train (i can't remember the section name off the top of my head). i believe typically you get a code when it fails outright.
