Engine unable to align with frame while replacing engine mount

I'm trying to replace the passenger side lower engine mount in my 2006 Impala. I get the old mount out and put the new mount in. However, the engine moved a half inch to the front when I jack it up. Now with the mount bolted to the engine, I can't align it with the holder on the frame.

Thinking lowering the engine might move it back, I also tried to put the mount on the frame before fastening it to the engine. Then when I lower the engine, the engine still sits on the mount bracket with about a half inch offset.

Does anyone know how I can move the engine a bit backwards to align it correctly? Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem with my 2004 Monte Carlo SS. did you use an engine hoist to raise the engine? If so just move the pivot point on the chain a couple of links so the top of the engine tilts toward the front, then the motor mount will point closer to the firewall. Be sure you bolt the mount to the motor first, if you lower the motor onto the mount already in the frame there's no way to get the bolts aligned with the holes in the engine.

Just picked up a 2008 Impala LT after my 2004 Monte Carlo SS died.

Unfortunately, I don't have an engine hoist. I'm using a jack to raise the engine. I'm now trying to move it by rotating the jack. But it's really painful because my driveway is not perfectly even.

Good luck, you might be able to use a long board wedged in front of the engine to try and pry it back, but not sure if that would work. Might need a couple of strong friends to push it back as you lower the jack.

Thank you very much for your suggestions!

I eventually get it done. I jacked it up and then pushed the jack while rotating it. I learned the lesson that never jack up things on a uneven floor. My driveway is rough with a small slope. It took me a huge effort to push it a tiny bit. Eventually, I bought some wood board to stack under the jack to make it both smooth and level. It became a whole lot easier after that. Hope my experience would help some one in the future.
