Keyless Entry transmitter programming

I have a 2014 Chevy Impala Limited LTZ and I need to program a keyless entry remote with auto start. Can I do this with an OBD2 scan tool? Is there another method, or do I have to go to the dealer or an auto locksmith?

I recently bought the Dorman#99157 fob programming kit from ebay for ~$55. The kit consists of a 5 button fob (with remote start) and a small programmer which plugs into the obd2 port under the steering wheel while programming. You need to program all existing and new fobs at the the same time. Took me less than a minute to program 2 fobs this past weekend. Also programmed an extra transponder (chip) key I bought ($10) from ebay and had cut at Ace Hardware. Google: Dorman#99157 and watch the short instr. video to see how easy the kit is to use. I'm sure a dealer can sell/program fobs for $$$. Dunno about a locksmith. Scan tool won't. Some member here said he bought the Dorman#99155 which is the 4 button programming kit w/o remote start for ~$15-20 less. He said he successfully used the programmer to program a couple of 5 button fobs. That kit comes with a 4 button fob (no remote start) and programmer. If so, the programmer must be the same in both kits and just the fob is different. I didn't take the chance/gamble because I needed 2 5 button fobs anyway.

What do you mean by this like a key fob ? Like hot to program a key fob? You canít In these generations of cars you have to take it to the dealership , Used to you were able to program key fobs on the DIY but they disabled that in newer fleet of vehicles. Or if ur talking about getting a fob where you just hop right in and just push start witch would be bad ass :p . Iím sure you can find something after all the new impalas and Malibuís have this and theyíre keyless entryís

I was referring to the keyless entry remote. Dorman makes a product that might work. Some sites say it fits my vehicle while others say it doesn't.

Thanks but still you getting it done by a locksmith is easier because recently they offered me broken key extraction service. I am sure they will help with key programming also.

I think Sheila's guess that the programmers in both Dorman kits (99157 and 99155) are at least functionally the same is correct. I'm the member who bought the 99155 kit, because I also bought two CTS-style 5-button fobs at the same time and didn't need another OEM-type 5-button fob. My LTZ is equipped with remote-start capability, and this still works with the new fobs that I programmed using the 99155 programmer.

Since my car is a 2016, I'd say it's a safe bet that a 99155 programmer will work with any of the newer Gen 8 Impalas, and it is a bit cheaper than the 99157 kit. But if you need a new fob and your car has remote start, you want the 99157.

Cheers!

T-

Just wanted to chime in to say that recently I programmed 4- 5 button fobs with the Dorman kit #99157 on 2 '16 Limiteds. You can get extra fobs and uncut non-programmed chip/transponder keys on ebay for ~$10/each. After you have the keys cut (~$0-5), easy programming instructions are in the owners manual.

Just my $0.02: The only difference between the Dorman #99155 & #99157 kits are the keyfobs, programmers are the same.

Before getting any keyless fob make sure you are getting it from the right person. Some locksmith won't make it well so always visit dealership for the key.

Not much of a locksmith if they can't cut Circle Plus keys.
I've had my local hardware store cut keys for my 2009 and they fit just fine.
