Really odd fuel gauge problem with 2008 LTZ

Hello fellow Impala Fans, so i have a weird one. My 2008 3.9l LTZ has a weird fuel gauge issue. it randomly started reading everything at 1/8th higher than it should be. It functions perfectly normal and goes up and down like normal, but 1/8th of a tank left has become empty. Ive ran it empty a few times by accident because my KM's left says 130. I recently replaced the Evap solenoid to solve a CEL, but it didnt fix this. Its not too big of a deal as it functions normally until that point, but its a pain in the ass. Has anyone had this issue before? Im wondering if theres any fixes that dont involve a 400 dollar fuel unit.

Fuel Gauge Problem

I had the same thing happen on a 2005 3.4... It had been hit hard from behind and it caused the sender to read off. The gauge showed 1/8 tank in the driveway, but it was dead empty and wouldnt start. Insurance covered the replacement as part of the accident but I think it was around 700 bucks cost.

ACDELCO SK1342 {#19210797, 911172} is the fuel level sending unit, $60 on RockAuto. Still have to drop the tank but only replace the level sensor vs the module.
sheila and 12 lt like this.

Purchase and use Techron Fuel System Cleaner according to label directions. You may need to use two consecutive treatments.

The cleaner will dissolve sulfur deposits on the fuel level sensor. Chevron (maker of Techron) also makes the GM fuel system cleaner under contract with GM.

At one time, GM issued several TSB's that directed the dealer to use the cleaner when experiencing gasoline vehicles with erratic fuel gauge operation.

My 2013 LTZ (107k miles) also, recently, started reading improperly, about 1/8 under what it really is.
I can fill the tank, and it reads 1/8 under full.
Not a big deal since it only gets me to the pump sooner, but still, want it reading correctly.

Gonna try this (before trying the sending unit) and will report back.

So I tried the Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner, 2 bottles, one each for 2 fill consecutive fill ups.
Definite improvement. It's still not quite back where it was. Instead of being 1/8 under on a full tank, it's MAYBE 1/32nd. less than 1/16th I know.

My avg mileage has also improved, though not significantly, but worth mentioning.
I had thought about doing 2 more consecutive tanks. The additive really is not all that expensive.
If I do, i'll report any change.
Thanks for the recommendation, Mr. "1999 White Coupe"

Just out of curiosity, do you run Top Tier fuel or the cheapest you can find?

Well I spent 6 months running BP (it claimed 5+ miles per gallons after extended use, but it was a lie.)
For the past year, I've been sticking to Ingles (a large grocery chain in North Carolina).
Not run down gas stations, pretty nice stations, but it's competitively priced.
I fill up with premium about twice a month on average, 87 rest of the time.

I just realized I never did come back and report after the 2nd bottle.
Gauge is just fine now. I did 2 bottles in all, and probably within a tank or 2 after the 2nd bottle, everything's been reading right.
