2013 Impala Airbag Light On

I have a 2013 impala LT. Recently the airbag light on the instrument cluster has started to come on. It usually stays on for a few minutes...then turns off for a few...then comes back. I have not had a service airbag message come on (not sure if this car does that). It is not related to the passenger airbag as far as I can tell either...as it does it whether or not a passenger is in the car (passenger on/off airbag light functions as it should). Anyone know what might cause this? Things I can check? I imagine I need to go to the dealer to see if there are codes...as my regular code scanner will not detect it.

Also anyone know if the airbags are covered under warranty? I couldn't find any special warranty for safety features like airbags...so I imagine its under the bumper to bumper only.

Try die electric grease on yellow connectors under both front seats. Solved my issues!

With battery disconnected, go through and check the two under seat yellow connectors for corrosion, dis connect them and inspect both ends of each. sometimes just re connecting them can be enough to get the connection back and cure the light. I had it happen from the passenger seat on my 2000 buick lesabre that has seat air bags. Re connecting the pass seat yellow plug solved it even though there was no corrosion visible on it.

i did the die electric grease after the lights stopped being intermittent. the lights went out instantly and it should have only taken 30 minutes a seat except i'm a big guy and being the first time doing something like this and trying to get to the connectors with a non-powered seat on the passenger side was a slight pain in the rear. however for a 5 dollar fix (or whatever the cost of die electric grease is) it was a very worthwhile fix that i should have never put off as long as i did.

if only it would have fixed the stupid airbag light being tripped by cell phones in the passenger seat then i'd have called it the best fix ever...

Hmm...yeah my car does this too. Super strange. Glad to know it is not just me though.

I'm surprised that so many people put their phones on the passenger seat! The little cubby hole underneath the HVAC controls seems like the perfect spot for a phone - and that's even where the charging ports are! I would think the phone would slide around and/or off of the passenger seat if left to sit there while driving?

This is where I usually put it...but sometimes when I am getting in or just got done with a phone call I will toss it on the passenger seat. I just noticed a few times that the passenger airbag light goes to on when it sits on it. Not a big deal to me...but I did find it strange.

if you put the phone at the back of the seat it doesn't move around much at all. the cubby hole you're referring to has my mileage book and id badge etc for work. and it's a hassle to get to usually. not many people ride in my car so the passenger seat works out well.

i generally buy longer charging cords anyways.

My phone usually lives on the magnetic suction mount on the windshield or in the cup holder. The cubby is occupied buy the charger and the power plug for my sat radio. (no xm impala from factory wtf lol )

I don't know why the phone triggers the seabelt warning but it is annoying.

i was at the dealership and asked the service manager i was dealing with on my wifes Cruze about the phones tripping the airbag light. she said it's pretty common anymore with a lot of cars. my best guess is the radio antennas in the phone are causing interference in the sensor and it defaults to the on position as a result. but this is just my theory, it could be completely wrong lol.

Well I finally got around to checking out those yellow connectors. Disconnected the battery and disconnected both the connectors and reconnected them. There was no sign of corrosion...they looked really good. Both seem seated well also. Either way, whether it was reconnecting them, or disconnecting the battery, it seems to have solved the issue for now. I have only driven it twice since then, but the airbag light has not come back on. Thanks for the help.
