Highest Speed Reachable?

whats the highest reachable speed you can reach in a 7th gen LS without a speed limiter? i know its only about 105 (seems to be about 107 by my speedometer) with the limiter. im not thinkin about the tire rating, just outta pure curiousity as it seems that these cars reach the limited speed quite easily.

Without a limiter, 125 mph for the 3800. I did 115 in my 99 Camaro v6 3800. Iirc the 9c1 3800 fuz version topped out at 124.

so you are sure that the top is 125? and 115 for the Camaro??? that made me laugh. i was racin a guy i used to work with one day. he had a 99 camaro with the 3800 series 1, so he's like "Im in a Camaro man. Imma smoke you." so i replied "we'll see." so i followed him to the highway and once we hit the on ramp we took off. i noticed that i started gainin on him rather quickly once we hit about 80 and up. when i hit 100 i was about two and a half car lengths behind him...then i hit 105 and the fuel pump shut off. i honestly thought i blew my engine. did not know that was gonna happen. i thought the car was gonna roll out to 120. but anyway, the guy started braggin like "when you hit 105 i was still gainin speed." "did you NOT see me catchin yo ass?!" -all of this was almost a year ago tho, i learned lots about my car since then.

thats my rant for the day

All of the 3800 motors are tuned to shut down after reaching a certain speed. With tire ratings being a major factor. Ive compiled a list from my personal experience with cars using that particular motor.

2004 Grand Prix GT - 108 (In 2008)
1997 Buick Park Ave - 105 (In 2009)
1998 Buick Regal Supercharged - 110 (In 2010)
1999 Buick Regal Supercharged - 115 (Today)
2004 Impala LS - 108 (In 2007)
1999 Camaro RS - 115 (In 2010)
2002 Impala 9c1 - 124 (In 2007)
2000 Pontiac Bonneville - 115 (In 2009)

the civi car will drag out ~140, 9c1s were much lower due to more weight
tires are HUGE trust me

we had to back off w/ PLENTY of pedal left on this run... tires literally felt like they were going to fly off the rim @ this speed

Keep in mind that tire speed rating is NOT just the top speed they are rated for, but for the top sustained speed for a matter of miles, like 10-12 IIRC. I doubt that any of the above mentioned speeds were held for any great amount of time, that's when you have to worry about the tire's, A tire rated for 100mph will handle a quick blast to 120mph for a mile or 2 with a worry. If it felt like your tires were going to fly off then I would look at the suspension, tire inflation...yadda, yadda.

I actually used to run consistently over 100 on non speed rated tires, which I know now was stupid, but didn't at the time. Anyway, they're tougher than you think.

I had my 2004's speedo down around the 'D' on the gear selector when I was chasing down a Neon SRT4. I guess that would be about 155ish. Only had about 5K on the tach and she was still going strong.

2004 IMS Edition Impala SS, JMB cold air intake, Intense Racing PCM, 3.4" pulley, cross drilled and slotted rotors, Performance Friction carbon metallic brake pads, Magnaflow downpipe, performance rebuilt tranny (Transgo Shift Kit, Raybestos Z-pack 3rd clutch, Sonnax Sure-Cure kit), Halo Projector Headlight assemblies, HID (4300K) low beams and foglights, DRL disable
