Question 7th gen factory options

Is it possible to have a 00-05 W-body with the bench seat/column shifter AND the 3.8L? I know that typically the LS trim has the 3.8 and the floor shifter is part of the trim. But I've seen the six-seaters with leather interiors and heated seats, so maybe the larger engine was also available as an option on the "base" model?

Also since I'm on the topic is there any particular reason we refer to them as 7th gens and the rest of the internet seems to classify this impala as the 8th gen?

I have a 2001 base model with the 3.8, it does have cloth bucket seats and floor shift but they were a separate option. It was heavily optioned, OnStar premium sound system, DIC, etc. but it is definitely a base model.

This is an old picture, Old Man Winter got the better of it and it's now sitting beside the garage waiting for the engine and trans to get pulled then it's off to the scrapyard. I'll miss it but I found a low mile almost rust free 2004 9C1 to take it's place.
