Congrats on your purchase!

Guys, please correct me if i´m wrong:

A good start would be to replace the air filter with a performance part and also the spark plugs and wires. A performance exhaust also improves acceleration, mileage and, of course, sound.

As a home mechanic it´s always a good idea to change the engine oil and filter, the transmission fluid and filter, the fuel filter and to flush the cooling system and replace the coolant. This will help protect you from mechanical failure and smoothes your ride.

I would also recommend you to buy a Haynes Manual for your specific make and model.

It does not make a diff as far as look, 4.3 and 5.7 look identical. And yes, intake and exhaust are the 2 basic things done. For exhaust, do not waste money on a H pipe. If you want a cross over get a dynomax X pipe.

What is the hockey puck you are talking about?

It is literally a hockey puck. The top engine cover (black plastic resembling a baseball diamond/home plate) is basically a silencer. Most people remove it but it leaves a hole in the intake rubber boot. This hole is filled with a hockey puck or similar otherwise there would be a big hole there and the car would die/not start. The proper way is to replace the rubber intake boot with one from a camaro/firebird or aftermarket found online so it does not look tacky with a hockey puck under the hood.

Personally I wouldn't put dual exhaust on the V6 just because I don't care for how it sounds. You can pick up a turbo style muffler fairly cheap and get better performance and better sound than stock.

Well the problem there is that the 94-96 4.3L is a V8, if you read the other replies you would have seen it stated it looks just like an LT1.

Duals on a L99 probably wont do a whole lot BUT it will help you prepare for that eventual day when you drop in an LT1.

I never tried it when I had the L99 but I believe a stall and gears would wake one up nicely. Snag there though is the civilian L99 cars often got a 7.5" axle so you might need to swap to a 8.5" first.

My bad I stand corrected, guess I never actually have seen the 4.3 as a V8. So in that case put dual turbos on it.

It was specific to the Caprice sedan 94-96 as the base engine option. Most GM dealership service departments would be confused if you told them you had a 4.3l V8.

As Dwayne stated earlier, you can do some basic things that help just about any engine, duals, CAI, maybe a stall increase...as these can transfer to another engine, I would not bother to go into the engine it's self.

I disagree. An X pipe will have more power in it. But for the cost, you can't beat an H pipe on a budget setup. An H pipe will be much better than no crossover. You can do an H pipe for around $30. Both of my Roadmasters have the Pypes X pipe.

That's a good point, that should be mentioned again. The 7.5" is weak.

Most of the L99 Civi cars had the 7.5" rear. It SEEMS like the only time they had an 8.5", was when a posi was ordered. It was normally paired with a set of 3.23's. But, I have not had a chance to confirm these thinkings. (All of the L99 9C1's had a 3.23, 8.5" rear)

How many times did that guy on ISSF blow that 7.5" rear behind a stock LT1? 3?

Hockey Puck.

Cut up air box, and a 3" PVC intake.

I have a buddy of mine who makes custom intakes and exhausts for a living. I'll have him hook me up.
