'58 belair with an impala VIN?

Long story short I have a 58 with an impala vin. The strange thing is that all the trim is belair trim including the badges and tail lights and it's a 4-door. Weird right? I've had this car since I was 17 but haven't had much interest in it until recently it has a 409(grandpa blew the original) three speed auto. I've called chevy and they have no record of this anywhere. Has anyone her of this before?

Any '58 with four, not six, taillights definitely isn't an Impala no matter what the VIN tag. says.

50s - 60s era vehicle? - Not weird to me!

A lot of "weird" things happened in the days of single VIN plates on the chassis/firewall, State registration with no Titles to vehicles, no marking of parts , subassemblies or hidden VIN number marking. No vehicle ever truly died - It was popular when the car died to "find" another similar vehicle and rescue the VIN tag from a "similar" vehicle headed for the crusher. Once had some private buyer try top sell me a fully optioned '66 Ford Galaxy 500 at a bargain price with the VIN number of a base model NYC taxi that I'm sure minus it's VIN tag ended up in a salvage yard crusher.

That's very interesting I've never herd that before. My first thought was that is was a mix up at the factory. Is there a way to tell if the vin plate was added later?
