I brought the 13 impala I bought in November of 16 past 100k this morning. Bought with 86,160 so I am racking it up. I expect it will have 200k+ before payoff in a couple of years with my 88 mile commute per day 5 days a week.

My other high milers include: 1997 expedition at 303k miles she dead though... and a 2002 lesabre that has about 230k on the clock.

Just curious - does the car still run great? Did you install a catch can? As these Impalas with DI engines get up there in mileage, I'm curious how the whole valve-coking thing will play out...

Absolutely no engine issues so far. I have been running without a catch can and using "top tier" fuel and synthetic oil since I got it back at 86k miles. I have a small suspicion that this car may be on it's second engine or has had enough work done to it before I got it. small things like like a wire harness not clipped into place in an odd part of the motor and, the front top motor mount long bolt was backed out about four turns. my scanner showed the car had 4800 miles on it since the last MIL was cleared.. the only thing that pointed me the other way was the antifreeze looked like it had 90k miles on it when I did the first oil change and also changed it and some of the trans fluid.

As far as the valve coking goes, I am not too worried abut it since that part of this engine looks easy to get at to have the valves blasted. If I remember correctly the first symptoms should show at cold start up and I have none.

Ok, thanks for the reply. If you've been around, you'll know that I'm definitely in the "don't worry about it" camp when it comes to valve coking. :-) To this day, I still haven't seen a single complaint about effects of valve coking on these Impalas - not one. I honestly think that the "issue" was WAY overblown. I think that it definitely was more of an issue for certain cars (VW, Audi, etc) - but I just haven't seen it being a widespread issue on these Impalas. ANd like you said, if it does become a problem after 150k/200k miles, then I'll worry about it and get the valves blasted with walnut shells or whatever (although, no idea where I would get that done to be honest).

Anyway, thanks again for the reply and glad to hear that all is well with yours! :-)

If the chevy dealer can't do it I know that there was a generation of the ecoboost from ford that had this problem, it's a long shot but perhaps they might be able to get it done.

2014 LT Limited 66000 Gone when it gets close to 100,000. Yes Top Tier keep oil changed every 3500 miles. Biggest thing fingers crossed. There is a reason 2016 & newer only have a 60K warranty. Direct injection sucks imo.

Get used to DI engines. I believe they are here to stay.

Some things are better left unsaid, which I generally realize right after I have said them.

^^Agreed!
@ral - 'm really curious why you think that Direct Injection sucks? Have you had any issues with the direct injected engine in your 2014? Do you know *anyone* with an Impala that has issues with the direct injection engine? Just like anything else, there were some issues when the technology first became mainsteam (just like there were people that said "fuel injection sucks" when it first came out too!), but every manufacturer now uses direct injection - and for good reasons - more power and better fuel economy. Direct injection is here to stay.

The warranty reduction and direction injection have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

I agree, 300 hp from a NA 3.6l motor is crazy. I could only dream of what this motor would do with some forced induction

@retiredpauly @jtrosky @IMSITTINGINYOURCHAIR

I tried to look this up with varying levels of success But, in your guy's (Or anyone else's) experience, isn't DI a bit more stable in regards to temperature changes? I'm sure this is a thing! At the very least, could the lack of a need to manually adjust the choke in adverse conditions be a DI advantage? Or does that not really matter with a cars engine? Just for reference, my only practical experience with choke adjustment comes from riding my Yamaha TW200 and I'm not someone who in most cases believes (Remembers) everything I read in articles.

*(Important note)* It gets surprisingly cold up here!

Sorry this kind of sounds all over the place but I hope its together enough to make some semblance of sense.
