2016 impala limited LT - best way to convert to leather seats

I want to know the best way to upgrade my cloth seats to leather? I don't want to simply use seat covers. Reupholster? Swap with LTZ leather seats? Custom? Etc. Thanks!

Pick-n-pull jy LTZ leather seats?

Yeah, pick n pull if you can find a set would be the first choice, however leather seating especially in complete sets for some of these cars seems to be hard to come by in local yards and even if you do they seem to come at a premium. I would probably go with a katzkin or roadwire leather interior. These are replacement seat covers that take the place of your existing cloth, your cloth comes off and the custom leather seating covers go on. I plan on putting a katzkin interior in my 12 lt once my kids are a little bigger and have been watching ebay for the right set, might also add heat.

I just got an email from my local yard notifying me seats are $15/ea. 3-8 through 3-14 for Toolkit Rewards members. So, for $45, you could have driver, pass. and rear entire seats. Other solution would be to sell your LT and buy an LTZ. They run about the same price here in KC.

Keep in mind if you want certain features to work in the leather seats that your cloth seats don't have, you will have to wire it in to make them work.

That is an incredible deal. Only sets I have been able to find around here have been wrong color, wrong year, and prices are more in the $150-200 per seat range if they are in good shape.

Joes74challenger makes a good point too, wiring and airbag systems have to be considered when swapping out seats, cannot take just any 8th gen leather seats and swap in without having to make modifications.

For that price, I'd be a little worried about the condition of the seats. Almost sounds too good to be true - and you know what they say.... :-)

If they are in good shape though, that's a great deal as mentioned above!

Let us know how it works out.

This is how I got a newer set of leather seats for my mustang. The stang I pulled the seats from had just been brought to the junkyard that same day and there were no tears or anything with the seats. Got both front seats for a total of $35. Best deal of my life lol.

the katzkin's were recommended to me in another thread as well and man, those things look super nice. Kinda pricey but they look like the best option as sometimes trying to find the seats at the junkyard is hit or miss most times.

Any of you folks bought any OE style repop seat covers lately?
A set for plain jane vinal OE Buckets seats (for my 72 Pontiac) from one of the TWO upholstery copy
companies cost almost $500! Foam and springs extra too!
Its just down the road from me in Newark NY!
They dont sell at the door/online either! All thru parts houses!
You mention katskin? A thousand bucks easy!

As far as mounting, thrifty GM prob. made the seat anchor/stud in the same spot on
all the 8th gen. cars. The seats should have the same track mount locations.
Some of the wiring is plug n play or already there. No bags in the seats IIRC!

Yea pic n pull is the cheapest way out. Just catching the car with the right color and
being the first to put your wrenches to get a nice set is gonna be tough!

A set on fleabay is gonna be $pendy and I can just imagine the shipping hassle
and cost!

Worth checking ebay from time to time, seen complete sets for several year model impala's over the last couple months for anywhere from $200 to around $400. Unfortunately not run up on a set for a 12 with the same rear seat as our car in the same color as our interior.

I know there is one online dealer that sells complete kits for $799 with shipping.

And yes, in the 2012 lt we own I can confirm that there are airbags in the sides of the seats. I would imagine using a non airbag seat in place from another year model might cause some potential issues.

Would sure be nice if they were all plug and play and different year models could swapped out.
