Misfire

Hi new member!! Have couple issues with my 2006 SS. Was told from engine scan that number 7 cylinder vent seal is bad which is cause misfires. Also bad cat and o2 sensors. What would be the best route to go first. Any help.

I'm not sure what a cylinder vent seal is? Part of the active fuel management? (AFM = system that puts engine in 4-cylinder mode, shuts down cylinders 1, 4, 6 and 7.)

If your socket set is all the same brand, you might be a city slicker.

Maybe I missed spell I believe its the cylinder 7 valve seat. But tire kingdom who ran the engine code pretty much said that cylinder 7 is burning the spark plug had up to 50k misfires. and that it could be the valve seat, catalytic converter and o2 sensor.

Okay, valve seat makes more sense.

Typically that would require a valve job, pulling the heads off and having a shop rebuild them, or at least the bad head.

How long have you had the misfire? Is there a check engine light?

Is pulling the heads off something that can be done at home. Is it an simple task? Misfire has been on and off for a while but wasnít told it was a bad valve. I did get tighten gas cap notifications for a while then finally the misfire started. I was thinking it could be the cat needs to be change. Still trying to figure out if the cat is bolted on at both ends or welded?

Pulling heads is not a simple shade-tree job. I've done a lot in my driveway, but still haven't put that on my resume (unless you count that lawn mower engine back in the 70's ) .

A mis-fire can be caused by other things, such as a bad spark plug, bad injector, and so on. Before you pull the heads, or have someone do it, you want to pressure test the cylinder to be sure the valve is leaking enough to cause a mis-fire. Fixing a coil or injector is way cheaper and easier than fixing a bad valve, so first make sure that's what is bad.

Did Tire Kingdom do any pressure testing?
