Transmission fluid question

Hey guys,

Ď13 LTZ 105800ish on the clock. Iím doing a transmission drain and fill, which I try to do every 30-40k. I see AcDelco makes a synthetic VI automatic transmission fluid. Iím sure my car never had synthetic before, and since you canít get all the fluid out without dropping the pan, I was wondering if it was safe/ a good idea to use the synthetic fluid? Itís almost twice the cost, but my transmission will run 215 degrees on hot PA summer days. Would this help keep it cooler? And make it last longer?

It doesn't hurt to mix. Think synthetic blend. Any Dexron 6 atf would be fine. I personally stay away from the universal/multi-vehicle atf. Several times a year parts stores will offer Castrol Dex 6 atf for $5/qt. I'd recommend performing a drain/fill on your '13 ea. 30k mi. It's easier than an oil change. No filter to swap. No pan to drop. I don't even jack up the car for an atf service. Just locate the 11mm drain plug just inboard from the front of the lf tire.

Yep, agree with everything sheila says above. Last time autozone had castrol dex 6 at $5 a qt think I bought a dozen qts online and bought some atf4 for our durango as well to get free shipping. The castrol stuff is a syn blend. Honestly dunno that running the delco stuff would have any advantages but I am not a mechanic, maybe someone here has a background in oils and chemical or maybe one of the certified mechanics could better answer whether there would be any benefits of using the delco stuff.

As far as whether the car had syn before, I would assume it probably came from the factory with the delco fluid.

My 6 year constantly asks why. What adults can learn from 5 and 6 year olds, to listen with your ears and mind open. Hard to learn when you don't listen ......

Thanks guys. I personally always run OEM fluids, except oil. I think itís more peace of mind then anything. Iím going to try the synthetic fluid and see if it keeps my tranny any cooler. 215 degrees just seems hot to me, even if it is shifting a lot in stop and go traffic on a 90 degree day.
