USB on 2016 Impala

I have had ongoing compatibiltiy issues between Ipod Classic and the USB/MyLink. Sometimes they work fine, but eventually the car stops recognizing the Ipod. Dealer says USB behind touch screen needs replacing, which there is a TSB for. I have read online that it's a firmware problem with MyLink and that a free upgrade is available, but the dealer knows nothing about this.

The USBs in this car will also not recognize music on thumb drives.

Is your car out of warranty? why didnt they just replace the USB hub if thats the fault?

Do the USB inputs in the center console function?

Do you have a USB drive with a flashlight on it? will it light up when plugged in? does your phone charge when plugged into the port?

GM ONLY recommends using real Apple usb cords.

There are no current TSB's relating to ipod classic functionality.

Car is in warranty. Dealer is waiting on parts to replace USB, which they say is a TSB.

Center console USB works with Ipod but does not charge it. Sometimes dash board USB will charge Ipod, sometimes not. Thumb drive has a light and does not work in any USB port in car. Don't have smartphone, only Ipod Classic 160GB.

Yes there is a TSB for the USB behind the screen not working

Is your thumbdrive a USB2.0 formatted in FAT32? and Not using WMA MP3 files? thats the best plan for consistent reliable results with USB. Also try to limit your stick to as small as you need. Avoid Using USB3.0 drives, using WMA files, having drive formatted someway other than FAT32. If youve only got a couple dozen, or even a couple hundred songs and your using a drive bigger than 8gb, unfortunately youre asking for issues. If youve got say 1.8gigs of songs on USB, make sure they are no larger than a 4gb USB2.0 stick, it should work more reliably. (once the port is fixed)

IPOD problems in 2018 Impala

2018 Impala. The music will skip once in awhile on both my ipods. One ipod stops after every song, I have to hit replay and then fast foward to play the next song or hit ff and skip to next song which will play but ipod will stop again when song is over. The car changes playlists on the other ipod which also skips the music and sometimes turns the ipod off and I have to reboot it to to restart. This is very frustrating and dangerous to have to deal with while driving. I had all 3 ports replaced by the dealer which found them all bad. Even with this done there is still a problem as stated above. The direct connection single cord (not USB) works fine no problems except no artist display on the touch screen. Very sad to have to deal with this crap. Both ipods work perfect in all other cars I try them in.

so I can't use my Ipod OR my flash drive in my car - this is so frustrating and stupid at the same time. "It passed the 170 point inspection, CarFax is clean", etc etc, yada yada.... but they FAILED to test the USB ports or tell me about them. It must be a "don't ask, don't tell" thing... but honestly, it wasn't even demo'd in full. I drove it, I saw the moonroof, and the rest is history. So now that I paid and copied over 800 song files onto a 128gb USB 3.1 flash drive, it's not going to work? Neither is the Ipod Nano which I just paid for a new cord for thinking it was bad...? I didn't want to use my phone for everything... I guess I'm going back to the dealer.... this sucks. And yes, they're .mp3 and .wma files .... any other brilliant ideas?

I've had issues with my classic too, in the console port. I always use cord that came with the iPod. The biggest problem is when I use it in my wife's Subie and then to my Impala it will play one song and stop with the Apple logo (rebooting). My iPod is chock full and I'm in playlist shuffle most of the time.

Think this is bad. My wife's 2016 Forester won't play an album, sometime freezes random lengths on shuffle, 5 songs or 30 songs in. Also if I forget to unplug it before turning off the car, I get the apple logo. Impala does neither of those things, thank God,

It's rough, but better than commercials on the radio or streaming. And I refuse to pay a subscription to avoid commercials.
