Question DIY Door Jamb Painting

Hey guys, i'm currently looking to get my car painted professionally. I have a shop picked out but they want an extra $900 for the door jambs. My plan is to paint them myself. I'm going to buy the necessary equipment to do it and spend time on it so it looks good. Let me know if you think that's a good idea or if i should just have the shop do it or if anyone has done it before and has an advice. thanks.

I dont think you doing it should be a problem.
The only caution I would have is it will be very hard to make your paint job look like the shop paint job. I know you wont see it when all the doors are closed, but every time you get in or out....you get my point.
Have you done auto paint before? If not I would get some practice parts that you can sand down and paint back up to get the feel for it.

For 900 bucks, I'd pay the shop. There's some tedious sanding in the door jambs, and masking will be a pain. Plus, you want the paint to blend seamlessly between the jambs and the rest of the car - the best way to get that is to be shooting the same paint at the same time on both the jambs and the rest of the car - ie, letting the shop do it.

My 2 cents. YMMV.

If your socket set is all the same brand, you might be a city slicker.

Thanks for the input, i think it won't really be that bad. Also, a lot of brands paint the door jambs with a different shade because the doors are usually closed so it doesn't really matter. Also another question, i've been looking for something to lower my car with and i noticed you have bc coilovers on, where did you get them?

My go-to place for w-body stuff. The BCs are the best. They are $1,000 but well worth it.

i had a 91 explorer that i rear ended a sunfire in. after replacing the front fenders/bumper i decided since i was going to have to paint them to match to change it from a baby blue/white to only baby blue. i didn't touch the door jams for the reasons stated above. there's a ton of work in there and it shows a lot more than you think once you're getting in/out of the car. just my 2 cents, the 900 for the door jams is worth it in labor saved on your part.
