rough ride

Just got my 2015 2lt. I have to check to see if I have a 4 door Camaro or an Impala. The ride is rough, suspension hard. Not good for our Canadian roads. Before I start replacing shocks, springs and getting more rubber between rims and the road, any one of my options I should start with first to see the most improvement in ride quality ?? Am I the only one who expected a smooth ride from an Impala or is that how it is nowadays ?

The 2LT has a sport tuned suspension, which might explain the 'rougher ride' that you are describing. Check that your tires aren't overinflated. They should be around 32 or 33psi. Any higher and you get a rougher ride.

In don't think the new Impala has a sporty ride at all. Its without a doubt the best riding car Chevrolet makes. If you feel the car rides comparably to a Camaro there is likely something wrong with yours. Go test drive another one, see if its same as yours.

He has not been back to this thread since 4/22/15. I too was thinking check the tires first for proper pressure.

i wanted the GM shocks and my mechanic told me when he called his dealer source, they told him they havent sold a single pair yet so mine were special order.

i 'think' he said there are no aftermarkets out there yet even. quick search of rock auto seems to confirm this. they are 75 bucks there, i think i paid 129 his price.

@ Freddie - I too have the 20" rims. I find the ride a little rough and would like your feedback.

My history with this model is through the rental fleets. They typically have smaller wheels with more sidewall creating a dramatically different ride. I bought the car new a few months ago, thinking I had demo'd this car plenty of times. I was prepared for a slightly stiffer ride given the (lack of) sidewall but the appearance of the 20's won me over.

I find that the first 15 minutes are the worst, almost like the tire took on a flat spot. The pressure is 31# or so based on the DIC. After 15 minutes or so, the pressure rises to roughly 34-35# and the ride is improved but still stiff; maybe stiffer than I was expecting.

On the plus side, the handling with the 20's is great.

I've also noted less torque with the larger wheels with slower take off. That's to be expected. The smaller wheels seem to have much better acceleration.

Today, when pulling into the garage, I noticed a slight knocking noise when going left to right from the neutral position. Imagine quickly moving the steering wheel left/right 1". Has anyone heard theirs do this? Nothing dramatic, but I'm curious if it's "normal".

2016 with 1700 miles.

Thanks all.

I don't want to speak for him, but I've found that it's really tough to get a true feel for a car on a test drive. You are usually test driving it on unfamiliar roads and can't spend enough time with it under different scenarios during a test drive. Also, you are concentrating on so many different things during the short test drive, that it's really hard to truly analyze every aspect...

Its just my opinion - but to me, your senses are overloaded during a test drive and you can't really fully "experience" everything that you end up experiencing once you actually own the car and spend some time with it....

Yea i guess i got an extended test drive they aloud me to drive through my own area and my own street, which is also near my job. i rarely leave this part of my city so i could understand that. i even went to my house in the car before purchasing. I find you can do a lot when they are still thirsty for the $$$$$$$.Most of my time is spent driving a f550 so i guess anything is smooth.

i drove my car 15 miles to my house to make sure it cleared my banked driveway at the bottom and fit in the garage just how i wanted it to. going up is fine but coming down i kill the spoiler unless i turn hard one way or the other and it just is not easy to do

they slapped on a tag and i signed papers and it was no issue and i drove it myself without them in it.
