New to forum, 3.6 V6 VVT tuning, and more

Hey all, I’m new to the forum so I’m not exactly sure who to get in touch with for what but anyways here goes. I have a completely stock 2014 Impala Limited LT with the DI VVT. Her name is Amelia. I’m looking to do a whole bunch of work to her when the time comes but for now I’m all about researching and doing my homework. I have found that we’re limited (ha) to options for tuning and performance, and then I found this site. I have some questions about different things I’ve found. First off, who is Will, and how do I get ahold of him? Also, I saw someone post the link to trifecta performance, and I’m wondering if this is only compatible with the LFX, or if we can manage with our engine. I’m looking for suggestions from everyone, I plan on going for tint, rims, debadging, interior light replacement, headlight and tail light fixtures, CAI, throttle body (which I can’t find), exhaust, and anything I don’t know about. Hi - welcome to the forum! I can help answer some of your quesitons...

1. Will is also known as "Overkill". He supplies custom tunes and other performance parts for the 3.6L LFX engine in the 2012+ Impalas. His website is "www.getoverkilled.ca".

2. The other main option is "Trifecta" - they also supply tunes for 2012+ Impalas (2012+ Impalas with the V6 *are* LFX engines). LFX is the engine code for a particuar generation of the 3.6L VVT engine - which happens to be the engine used in the 2012+ V6 Impalas.

3. Not sure if Will still sells the larger throttle body or not, but check with him. You can also get a ported throttle body (same size, just slightly ported). Look up "VMax ported throttle body". I do have one, but personally, I didn't notice much of a difference with it - but I also have a custom tune, so that may "hide" some of the advantages of the ported throttle body.

4. Lots of people on here with custom headlights, wheels, exhaust, taillights, etc. Use the search function and also take a look at the pictures in peoples "Garage" to get some ideas!

Hello,

I am on the verge of buying a 2017 Chevy Impala. I am concerned about the 305 horsepower V6 which feels very ordinary. I guess that this car would start to feel strong at 350 HP, but 375 would be better. Can anyone advise me how to get there?

Also, what kind of HP gain can be expected from the Trifecta tune? How about the Overkill custom tune? Please advise.

Welcome to the forum.

When getting window tint. I highly suggest getting ceramic tint. Itís about $100 more for that then the regular. But in the summer youíll be thanking me. It blocks almost all uv light into the car and doesnít cook the interior. I have a black car with black interior and that is a life saver for me. Plus I think the ceramic tint has a much nicer color to it. Hereís a photo of my car with the ceramic tint for reference

You should get in touch with a guy on Youtube, his channel is bosshogkcmo. He's making some impressive numbers on this V6. He's at 276HP/276lbft TO THE WHEEL. The big thing limiting these motors is that the transmission can't hold too much more power than that.

350 to 375 will not happen with this transmission. Not sure what you have driven in the past but the 305 this engine and trans put out feel pretty strong to me considering I can chirp the wheels at 25-30mph.

I feel dumber for just actually sitting through a few of his videos. All he did was add a K&N air filter to the factory air box and change out the exhaust. I would not spend the money to have mine dyno'd but with a simple tune that you can do on your own I would guarantee you can put out similar numbers stock.

Lol, well he asked for performance and as far as i know he's the only one with an lfx trying to push its limits. 276 is like 325-335 crank. Idk about you, but he'd dust me..

As anyone talked to the Camaro guys? The LFX was 320 something from the factory in the Camaro.

Stay away from overkill. That dude stuff is crap. Took me 2 months to get my stuff. Sent me the wrong adapter plate so had to wait even longer. Put his tune in, and in and i will say the car drove awesome. But on cold starts the engine would rev up and down for no reason, and shake a stop lights cause the idle would not stay. Had him try 3 different times to fix it but never could. Would also make a weird poping sound out of the cai i bought from him. Had to take it all off before it ruined my engine. I saw another post where someone had the same problems. Just giving you my experience, its still up to you.

Do yourself a favor and don't tune your engine for horsepower, it has plenty of power for normal driving that you should be doing. Tune it for better economy and slight increase in power, a lot of the car can't handle the power you throw at it from the factory 217 block. As soon as this engine is exposed to abuse (ex. Police abuse, turbo abuse) you won't find it long until a new Mercedes or whatever is on your mind, or that pesky TCM blowing up at 60,000 miles. The Impala was never manufactured to be the almighty power sedan and it never will, it's design is lesser than the sport sedan Caprice and was for the gentleman in mind; Sleek. reserved, robust.

Do however what you wish to rest of the car, separate it from the normal boring sedan like your tint, exhaust, lamp fixtures, etc. I will say that if you decide to sell this car the resale of chopped stock parts such as your badging and exhaust work are not going to help the resale value. Keep your stock parts if you can just in case you decide later on for that fancy new Mercedes. Personally I would not cut the exhaust until the value of the car plummets to $5000 (it'll be a quick few years, they lose about a thousand or two every year), and I would use plasti-dip on your badging. You'll never notice the dipped bowties until you stare long enough from a distance, of course they can be seen standing in front of it.

I have 50% tint on mine, it doesn't get deathly hot on normal summer days but just have to hold open the door before entering when it gets above 95 degrees F. I also have Spyder bar-style led tail lights but have had some investment troubles for new headlights, I plan on fancy halo ones. I've also updated interior lighting to ice blue led, and put a simple plasti-dip design on.
