AutoZone sale on Dex 6 trans fluid

Just an FYI... AutoZone is running a nice sale on Castrol Dexron VI synthetic blend trans fluid. It is 2 quarts for $10 and you must buy 2. 6 quarts for $30 plus tax. Just picked up some for a drain and fill along with 6 quarts of STP synthetic oil, long life filter and air filter. If I remember right, the trans fluid sale is going on until April 1st.

Thanks for the heads up. That is a good deal, unfortunately our az store whenever I have gone in never has more than one quart of castrol branded dex 6 or atf4 in the store. Have been in the place after trans fluid many times and given up on even trying them when I need trans fluid.

WickedGoat, thanks for the heads-up! Just got home with 24qts. Had to go to 2 stores. Good deal considering it's $9/qt. normally. With 3 Impalas in the driveway, it'll get used for atf and ps changes.

Darn, don't think ours is having this sale. Of course today was the first warmer day for me to change filters so I also checked the tyranny fluid and it barely touches the stick so figured I do a drain and fill also. Time for an oil change too.

Now to find the DYI so I can find how much I need.

Edit:

Does it matter if it's full synthetic or a blend.

This what I'm looking at and it is on sale.

Just remember that the trans fluid level for the 6-speed trans MUST be checked with a hot trans (there is a specific temperature range the fluid needs to be - search the forum to get it as I can't remember). You do NOT want to overfill this trans - it's really bad for it...

It drained around 4.5 quarts and was barely touching the stick before. I put that much back in and will check it again in a couple days after driving more.

^+1. That's what you need, Dexron 6 atf. Castrol is what's on sale at Autozone. I've used both, full synthetic and synthetic blend, whatever's on sale that floats your boat, lol. Main thing is to change it ea. 20-30k mi. with Dexron 6 atf.

At 170K it's unknown to me if it had ever been done. The fluid was pretty brown.

Probably had not been changed at the typical intervals. If it were mine would be changing it again sooner rather than later.

Asked once at local store if he could order castrol transmax atf4 for our durango for me. Guy working there said he would have some in Thursday afternoon, so I dropped back in and guess what, still was just one quart on the shelf.

Was just able to order online ship to home and got free shipping with an order over $35. The 2 for $10 deal applied and they had both dex6 and atf4 in stock. Had tried prior to order oil and trans fluid online from autozone and they would not ship it, nice to see that has changed. 18 qts was $98 with tax.

Sounds like a good plan

Glad to have posted this... At $9 a quart normal price, it is a great deal. Also, don't use anything but straight Dexron 6... no mixtures like Dex/Merc. Just use straight Dex 6 fluid, no matter which brand you go with. This is for the 6 speed automatic LFX cars...
