3800 stalling

Hey guys, just finished the LA1 to L36 swap in my 2000 a couple weeks ago, and nailed down a few issues, but I’m just guessing on this last one.

Once the car gets warm at idle, it’ll stall. Just shuts off as if I turned the key off. Same thing happens if I mash the throttle and let it pull up through first gear. Just shuts off.

Did a little checking after it stalled at idle, no spark and no power to fuel injectors so that tells me electrical. I’ve read on here that the cam position sensor is a known issue with these engines, so I threw one at it. Also grabbed a crank position sensor for the hell of it but haven’t put it on yet. Unfortunately I have not been able to drive it yet since the intake manifold gaskets went out before I got the sensor replaced (engine has 20 miles in this car lol)

What do you guys think? Am I looking in the right place?

You replaced the computer right?

Ok do you have access to a scanner that can read data live?

I would try to get it there and get some live data on the spark and injector tables.
Not sure what else to start with besides part swapping, which is expensive unless you have a donor.

Well I already got the cam and crank sensors. Just wondered if you think that could fix it. I noticed the resin that was inside the case of the cam sensor was all shrunken inside, the little half moon crescent in the plastic case was empty, like you could see down in it if that makes sense

The harness going into the ignition module looks all twisted and kinked too, so I was planning on replacing that short harness where it plugs in by the evap canister. Just runs from there down to the cam/crank sensors, and the ignition module. Was wondering if that had any correlation

Possibly. If you have them it doesn’t hurt. Maybe continuity test some wires back to the pcm too. And make sure the connectors are seated really good in the pcm.

I didn’t even think of testing the connection to the pcm honestly. I’ll give that a try. I’ll see how it runs with the new sensors once I get the intake plenum on. Still waiting on that in the mail


Also little tangent, I saw the details on your build on your profile page, do you like the BC coilovers? Would they be good for a daily drivers? I always had my eye on them but for 1000 bucks I thought they were kinda salty. Spotted the lowering springs/kyb performance strut combo on ZZP for 400...better deal? I know it’ll have less adjustability but I only wanna drop it an inch and a half or so

BC’s are the best. Yes $1000, but so customizable you can make your car look the way you want.
Also adjustable dampening is awesome!!
There is almost no body roll cornering a cloverleaf at 55+.
Broke the rear end loose a couple weeks ago going through some twisties, man that was fun :)

I’ve had them on for 1.5 years and 42,000 miles.
I would not recommend driving them during winter if you have salt. I did that for one winter and one of the coilovers is seized up. So $150 in parts to get that one adjustable again.
The warranty is 1 year.

Well...
Not a whole lot of sense guessing around until you get your car back with the intake manifold gaskets fixed and then replacing the sensor, do those first then we take another look.
