All wheel drive impala?

Been toying with the idea for a bit, and in theory it will work, but what do you guys think? This is probably never gonna happen, but would be fun to think about.

Pull an awd 4t65e from a rendezvous, supercharged 3800, rendezvous rear subframe suspension and driveline, cut out the trunk and mount rear subframe, run the driveshaft where the factory exhaust would go, custom length driveshaft, and a hood or fender exit exhaust.

Idk, could it work?

What about your transfer case or how do you plan to pick up off the trans to get a driveshaft point of attachment going to the rear? May be enough room, but dunno, might just work out to be easier to take an already awd frame and running gear and modify it to take the impala body. Either way post back what you think you can come up with.

My 6 year constantly asks why. What adults can learn from 5 and 6 year olds, to listen with your ears and mind open. Hard to learn when you don't listen ......

Transfer case would be built into the transmission if it came from an awd rendezvous or Aztek

I'm sure if you drive a few back roads you will find an Impala on an old C10 4x4 chassis.

Believe it or not, I've had similar thoughts myself. Back when I wanted a '00 Monte Carlo more than pretty much anything else(still kinda want one, though not as bad and mod ideas are a little different), one of my ideas was to install some kind of 4H/2H/N/4L transfer case and lever in there, and make it RWD-based. Didn't help when I learned about FWD, how common it was, and that my dream car was only available as such, haha. Or within the last few years when I found out the lights came on whenever a computer decided they should, rather than waiting for the DRIVER to pull the switch. So few wanna actually drive anymore. But, I digress.

Current idea on my end is to have enough savings when my current Impala's 3.8L gives out, to stuff a certain 6.2L 707-hp supercharged Hemi under the hood....I'm sure we all know which one....and make it RWD-only with 3-in-the-tree(chickadee). Your idea seems to involve a bit more wrestling with computers and complex systems in a place I wouldn't have thought to put them. Could be AMAZING in winter though. Need to see how it stacks up against the AWD/4x4 hybrid my Patriot runs on.

BREAKING NEWS.....CraftsmanQuad19 of the Chevrolet Impala community has just announced his intention to take on the worlds biggest rally car champions and their established rally platforms such as the Subaru STI and Audi Quattro, in his 8th generation Impala, a vehicle that now seems prehistoric to many, yet introduced several lower-income American households to the idea of an incredibly luxurious automobile for the same price as a standard lower-end sedan. That idea of luxury on a budget has since spoiled the American culture to the point where they expect ALL their new vehicles, even those wearing the historically rugged Jeep badge, to have all the most complex and up-to-date features that now keep them from having to do all the driving themselves. Sources say the incredibly bold new rally entry will have to keep an incredible amount of work put into his car, as the 8th generation Impala was known by the automotive community to have a pinch weld that is unusually prone to rust out just before the car's engine gave out from 300,000 miles of use. We'll bring you more updates as they come to us.

Haha someday perhaps, I’d use the 7th gen though with an l67 or l36 with a top swap.

If I used an 8th gen would have to be a 3900 or LS4

I was referring to ours as the 8th generation, as a news crew might do.....which, technically they are 8th generation. Idk why the forum calls them 7th generation, but wiki and most folks here know them as technically being 8th generation, and when I first joined up and asked, even the most senior members who responded weren't sure how it happened, and weren't too concerned, so....just rolling with it, more or less.

Huh, interesting. I’ll need to look into the generation and find where the confusion happens

Also you mentioned those pinch welds...since I’d use the whole rear subframe from a rendezvous I wouldn’t have to worry about those anymore. I’d basically do what the civic guys do when they take an awd wagon and put all the awd goodies in the civic body. Theoretically wouldn’t even have to mess with any computer systems as long as the final drive is the same

Here's the wikilink, if you really wanna take the time to cross-reference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Impala

When I first saw your mention of an AWD version of our transmission, I almost typed up something about the stock version from an Impala should work, then remembered the CVT in my 4x4/AWD Patriot needs an extra output shaft that connects to whatever passes for a transfer case underneath. Figured the Equinox and others must use something similar.

I didn’t even think of the equinox...I was only thinking of the rendezvous and Aztec. Did the equinox have the 4t65e??
