Smile 2014 impala lt1 2.5 review

What a quiet engine with adequate power. I was so impressed I chose it over the 6 cyl period as 66%of the other buyers have.Dont make the mistake and buy the noisy 6 cyl, just drive the 2.5 quiet motor

Weird, we must have got a special one as our V6 isn't noisy and is more than just adequate. I'm sure we would have been happy with the 2.5l Impala but glad we got the V6 one.

My car is a Tesla, the wife's is a 2014 with that raging monster of a 3.6l I swear every time she starts it I think John Force showed up in my driveway.......................................

Here in the real world, I do drive a Tesla daily and the wife's 2014 3.6l is not particularly louder, I don't know if a salesperson lied to you or you are trying to convince yourself you made the right choice as you have second thoughts.

I will say ask the EcoBoost owners how undersized turbo motors fair over the long term. On the gasoline side of things turbos and small turbo engines do not last as long as properly sized NA engines which in reality makes them more expensive in the long run and worse for the environment which is what they are supposed to save.

Believe it was MOtorTrend who tested the F150 EcoBoost vs. 5.0l and found the rated fuel efficiency difference to be invalid in the real world. EPA testing is not the real world, never has been, unlikely ever will be.

If you are happy with the 2.5l GREAT but don't spew stupidity about how most drivers made the wrong choice, heck I think you made the wrong choice in FWD.

Wow! Give me noise ANY day! 🙂 Btw...just went to Metallica in Grand-Forks, ND a few days ago!

Anyhoo....my 2015 CPO loaded LTZ (20" wheels too) has the LFX V6. Damn I like this V6!!! Don't think it's noisy at all. Very good passing power. You CAN hear the subtle exhaust rumble when accelerating briskly! Cruising at 80 is almost relaxing. Much quieter than my '08 LTZ.

I'll be 57 on the 16th. No way in HELL I'd be buying a "Granny" 4-cyl Impala tho'!! Just not my style.....

There's no wrong choice. Everyone has their own priorities.

I think that both the 2.5 non-turbo four-cylinder and 3.6 are pretty good engines. My father-in-law has a 2014 LTZ with the 2.5 And it is not underpowered in my opinion and I've been quite impressed with the smoothness of it. Likewise, the 3.6 is one of my favorite engines of all time for a daily runabout driver. Our 2014 limited with the 3.6 has a lot of get up and go, relatively good gas mileage, and a good reliability history.

I could live with either one of the engines in that platform. It was a daily driver for me and I had a another fun car, I would definitely get the 2.5. If didn't have access to a car that was a little more fun, I would probably get the 3.6.

I don't disagree about concern with low displacement engines that are turbocharged, exactly like the 2.0 turbo in our AWD Buick. Mildly concerned about longevity......On the other hand,My V6 3.5 twin turbo, even highly tuned, has been rock solid In my AWD Lincoln. I don't know what to attribute that to because I beat the hell out of that car And it is over nine years old with 94,000 miles on it. Perhaps because it's a V6 and a larger displacement turbo things are better.....Perhaps because I maintain the hell out of it With regular maintenance knowing that I'm pushing it beyond what it was intended for......Don't know why. But again, I have concern about the 2.0 turbo in our Buick in the long haul. Unfortunately, was the only engine that I found acceptable for the weight of that vehicle And was the only engine offered in the high trim premium models, which I also wanted for miscellaneous reasons. Fortunately, I've got a bumper To bumper warranty until late 2022.....If things start looking sketchy, I'll get rid of it in four years.

**However.......The 2.5 in the OP's (bumperking) 2014 is not a turbo engine. It's an NA. Just saying Dwayne. **

I think this is a generational thing. Early 4's sounded a bit like sewing machines on steroids and produced low power to boot. Now, however, they (4's) produce decent power and mileage (and quiet). Once told myself that I'd never buy a V6 (owned a 472 Caddy at the time) but times and gas prices change and so did I. Love my 3.5 and at 22 MPG (city) it's decent and plenty of power too. When your my age sound isn't an issue (hearing and such) but the Impala is still the quietest car I've owned. At this point it's all relative.

Thank you for the correction on the turbo thing, I thought the 4bangers were turbo. Undersized engines still tend to lead short lives. Remember the 80s 2.8l V6 that was great in the cars and a smoking(literally) turd in the S10. Engines across the board have gotten a lot better in the last 30 years but still I believe the trend stands.

Really though the premise the 3.6l is loud or rough or anything like that is complete bull.

I have owned the 2.5 and I can say that it's pretty decent on all points. For a daily car it puts down 28-30 mpg on my drive into work. It does have a buzz on cold start up through the exhaust.

Yes, the 3.6 is a strong engine. If I need to get my lead foot out, I can jump into one of our 355 hp Silverados or jump into the 70 supreme with 310 hp

I will say that no one is making a mistake buying an Impala! Your only mistake is buying something that's not an american make!

Have 3 other passengers in that car and you will want the 3.6L when its time to pass.

100 percent agree.

.......criticizing the 3.6 as loud or rough does not comport in any way with the two GM vehicles I have owned with the 3.6.

3.6 V6 is great. I left 4 cylinders behind in the mid 80s. The V6 doesn't have to work as hard & will probably last longer. I personally think the Impala is too big for 4 cylinders.

Since I am a pragmatist about interior space for my tall family, cost, safety, function, and then looks way down at the bottom; I was just looking for a good Impala at a good price. Heck, I would have been happy with the short lived mild hybrid 2014 four cylinder if it could have been found at the right price. Ironically it was my wife, who does not drive for medical reasons, who vehemently insisted it had to be the V6. I guess she likes to ride in cars with a little more testicular fortitude.
I will refrain from the obvious self aggrandizing sex joke I could throw in here. I trust you sickos and your imagination to figure it out anyway.

Adding a singature only because I am tired of being shown my incomplete account setup.
