2012 Impala LT

So I've had my car for about 6 months now, and I have to say it is a pretty awesome car. I bought it used back in June from a local Chevy dealer (my family should practically own it seeing they've bought about 20 cars there). I have to say it is a total upgrade from my old, beat up, 1999 Monte Carlo (that we bought at the same dealership) . I love pretty much everything about the car.

Pros:
-The interior is roomy and there is plenty of leg space.
-The ride is nice and solid. With the new 3.6L VVT engine and the 6 speed transmission, it does pack some power. I have a blast driving it.
-HUGE trunk space. Could fit a few bodies back there (if needed of course).
-Does pretty well on gas. I get around 22-24mpg in the city with an average speed of 35mph, and then about 25-28mpg on the hwy.
-Stock speaker system is pretty awesome. I dont have the Bose package, but the stock speakers do put out a decent amount of bass and the audio remains mostly clear at high volume.
-Handles very well in rain and snow. Having our first snow here in Michigan a couple weeks ago, I was skeptical about driving my car. My monte carlo did horrible in the snow and would slide everywhere, but the Impala seems to handle it like a champ. I even tried to make myself slide a few times, but with the ABS and Traction Control, it hardly ever worked.
-Overall a nice, reliable, affordable car.

Cons:
-Transmission seems to slip or kick hard into gear when accelerating after slowing down.
-Doesn't come with bluetooth connectivity.

Those are probably my only complaints so far lol.

I love my car and it's fun to drive. Would I pick another Impala as my next car? Probably not. But for being a (somewhat) broke college kid, this car was affordable and is super dependable to get you from point A to B.

Thanks for the quick review! I like the pros and cons layout.

The tranny problem is very accurate. My 2012 Lt also has this problem.

I got the WOT-Tuning tune from our vendor here and it corrected this issue immensely. Like a new car.

2012 LT Fleet or Retail

What's the difference between a Fleet and a Retail? I'm not sure what I have now. It has OnStar, Satellite, and bluetooth. I must say the outside noises is annoying. Obviously doesn't have acoustic glass.

Reviving an older thread. Looking to buy an '08 to '14 Impala. I'm starting to learn the differences between LS, LT and LTZ. But I'm hearing "Transmission" problems a little too much here and there.

Is the problem mentioned above something that you can live with or is it an indication that it will need work in time?

I'm posting here as I don't have any luck starting a new thread on the site for some reason. I really don't understand it. I've never had anything negative said or done on here. It is also nothing new, it been this way since the very beginning. If I start a thread it either gets deleted or not even posted at all. Moderator(s) take notice.

Also any other info on an '08 to '14 would be appreciated. Mostly looking for any possible problems to watch out for.

Thanks

What room are you trying to start a thread in? Some have to be approved by a mod before they are live, think you can post in the 8th gen room under performance and technical without having to have thread approved.

As to the transmission issue, I cannot say that we have really had any issues. We have a 2012 that we bought brand new, only issue we ever had was what felt like something sliding in the trunk on take off, and especially when sitting at a hill felt like it slipped and then took off but NEVER any slippage running through the gears at highway speeds or any strange behavior. Did have a "transmission specialist" from the dealer ride in our car while it was under warranty and he said he there was not an issue. Honestly think that problem with our car was related to the hubs. After replacing a wheel bearing hub the issue seemed to resolve, but then I really don't get to drive our car too often either. Last time I did drive it a week or so ago everything seemed tight and performed pretty well like new, not bad for a car with over 170,000 miles on it.

Appreciate the reply. The thread I started the other day (last Friday I believe) was in General Discussions. It did say it needed to be approved first, but it never showed up.

Good to hear that your '12 has no Trans issues. I believe I'm going to stay between '12 and '14.

I've been buying cars now and then for over 50 years now and have had great luck with them. Never had anything that needed anything much over regular maintenance. I'm trying the continue the trend the best I can, but could use some help.

If anyone is interested and/or curious on my pick of cars through the years, just let me know.

But now it's time to move up again.

^ Bill, fwiw, I'd stick with a '12 on up with the 3.6/6spd. My 3 have been pretty bulletproof.

OK, in my search I found 2 nice looking cars and both for a great price too, only to find out they are "Flex Fuel". I believe that means Propane. Up until yesterday, I never heard the word "Flex Fuel", although I am a little familiar with Propane powered vehicles.

Not that I want one anyway, but it looks like they really bring the value down.

Seems I had one like that recently, too, in the gen1-6 forum. I ended up just (re-)posting it in off-topic, I think.

^ Bill, "flex fuel" just means it's capable of running E-85 or straight gas, your choice.

Flex fuel means it will safely run on e85 fuels. Our 2012 is a flex fuel model, but has never seen a drop of the stuff.

I would not hesitate to buy another 2012 or newer impala with the 3.6. Of course with any used vehicle you have to be careful about buying the prior owner/s abuse or problems due to neglected maintenance.

With regards to the thread needing approval, I just ended up sending jtrosky a pm the one time I had that happen and he approved it.

Interesting. The reason I was saying that was because this car had a tank in the trunk. I also talked to the guy selling it and he said it was set up either for propane or gas. They called it "Flex Fuel". But maybe it was both??

Thanks for the correct info anyway.

sheila 09-18-2019 08:35 PM

^ That tank is definitely an aftermarket conversion/modification, lol.
