Question '72 Impala dies when engine warm and put in gear

My '72 Impala 400 small block starts and runs great until I drive enough of a distance to get it warmed up, say 15 miles. It will still start and idle fine, but when I put it in gear it dies unless I get on the gas immediately. Once I get moving again, no stop signs/etc., it seems to work itself out and runs fine without dying. Otherwise, seem to have to leave it set for an hour or more to really cool off before I can start it and put it into gear without dying. Any thoughts?

Have the idle speed check (with the engine warmed up) with the transmission in D. I think it should idle about 550 rpm's.

I'd rebuild the carb. sounds like a restriction in the idle circuit. is it running hot at all? are you running a quadrajet?

Rochester 2bbl?

If so, the off idle circuit is not working.

Take top off of carb, locate two brass tubes that are attached to the top and are in the fuel when assembled.
Are they soldered shut? (Most are)
Drill a hole in each----,028 or .030 in the solder up thru it.
Put it back together and enjoy the crisper drivability and much improved MPG.
Bits are available at most hobby shops ot on line. you will need a pin vise.
I have fixed many like this.
Any other carb, don't do it.
