Transmission Troubles

I have a stock 70 impala convertible. I am having troubles with the transmission. There are two problems and I am not sure if they are related.

Problem 1 - When driving above 40 mph the transmission will not shift into overdrive (not sure if that's what it is classed as or not). The transmission has no problems shifting up or down into any other gear but will not down shift when at cruising speed.

Problem 2 - Sometimes when in reverse, the transmission seems to be slipping. Or taking its time to get into reverse, if I rev the car it does not move as it should then it feels like it gets into gear and is fine.

I have checked the level of fluid and it is fine as well as the color of it and it is still red with no signs of being burnt. The car has been completely restored about 10 years ago and is only driven in the summer for about 3 months of the year. Is this something that could be an easy fix or would the transmission need to be removed to evaluate.

Thanks

Darren

I believe that the transmission on that is just a simple 3 speed turbo 350. No overdrive or converter lock up.

Not down shifting when gas pedal is pressed down can be a linkage adjustment found on the side of the carburetor and runs down the back of the engine and is fastened to the side of the transmission.

Might try and have a look and see that the vacuum line to the modulator on the side of the transmission is still connected, although it sounds like it is.

Reverse slipping can be perhaps a band adjustment within the transmission.

Some things are better left unsaid, which I generally realize right after I have said them.
