Anyone familiar with the NT555 G2? I've read some good reviews on them but hoping to get some feedback from a forum member. From what I've found so far, these look to be about the best option for a 255/50 ZR17 tire without breaking the bank.

Never used the G2, but I will say that I have used the first generation of those tires with no issues. I will say that they weren't very good in m/s. No rating though. There was a freak snowstorm one night and I still had them on...

The G2 is supposed to have improved wet and dry traction over the first gen. The reviews I read on the first gen weren't very favorable for wet traction, especially with people that had performance upgrades. It seems the new tread design has corrected this according to user reviews. I've had tires in the past with poor wet traction and that's something I can't deal with.

I would say get the G2 then. I had a stang with Nitto555 and thought they were great, but to hear that the G2 is even better...

Well, taking a chance. Just ordered a set and they will be delivered in 1 to 3 business days. The warehouse isn't that far so hopefully I can get these installed tomorrow.

The tires were delivered this morning to Tires Plus. I did not receive a notice they were delivered from TireBuyer nor did Tires Plus bother to call me to say they received them, I called Tires Plus to check on the status. I was told they can't install them until after the holiday and they wouldn't set an appointment, just said they'd call me back sometime later with a time. WTF.. Lesson learned. I am never going to buy tires online again. It's not worth the wait just to save a few bucks. I'd be willing to bet if I drove up to Tires Plus and wanted to buy tires they'd damn sure work me in and not turn me away.

I would not condemn all online tire purchases from every company. I had really good experience with the set of Cooper tires I purchased from Home - Discount Tire Direct. I posted on here about that before. They shipped and sent them to me directly to the address I requested (or I could have had an installer approved by them do the work in my area - you can add the payment as part of the order or remove that if you do not wish to go that route).

I had a local Technical School Auto Repair Shop do the mounting and balancing....

^^Agreed!

That is one of the reasons why I don't buy tires on-line - it's a PITA!! Between shipping and then having some place install them (that you didn't buy them from), it's just a hassle. Not to mention the hassles if you happen to have issues with them after you get them installed!

I paid a premium for my Bridgestone Turanza w/Serenity Plus, but it was all done "on the spot" at a Firestone store. Plus, if I ever have ANY issue whatsoever, for the life of the tire, it's ALL covered. And they are 80k mile warranty tires. Plus, I also got a lifetime alignment and lifetime balancing there as well. So I shouldn't have to spend another penny on tires, alignment or balancing for a LONG time! :) Even if I run over something and ruin the tires - it's ALL covered.

Most people would think it's crazy to spend $200 per tire (was ~$800 tires for the tires and all of the protection plan for them), but it's nice knowing that I won't ever have to worry about tires again - maybe even for the lifetime of the vehicle (depending how long I keep it). Plus they are pretty good tires (that always helps!). :)

Sorry to hear about the hassles you are going though. Like you said, lesson learned. YOu know the saying "penny wise, pound foolish" - or "pay now or pay later". I guess either could apply here...

I had a great experience buying tires online. Just depends where you get them from. I ordered from Discount Tire Direct and had them shipped to my local independent shop (conveniently located right next to my shop), where they were installed and balanced the same day they arrived. I paid less than $500 for all 4 tires, mounted and balanced, plus a 4 wheel alignment. Granted, I bought a budget tire without road hazzard warranty, and did not get a lifetime alignment, but I still think it was a great deal all around.

DT does offer the same road hazzard warranty as other tire retailers, although you do have to wait a couple days for the tire to arrive, which could be pretty inconvenient.

I'm sorry to hear your experience with Tires Plus did not go well, but I wouldn't be so quick to write-off online tire buying overall.

The price was great and was a lot cheaper than buying from the tire shop, basically saved me about $150. I'm just irritated because I know if I had bought them from Tires Plus (who I've done business with quite a bit over the years) they would have worked me in. I sent an email to TireBuyer about it but got an automated '2 business days to respond' reply. I would call but would rather have it documented in the email, although I don't really know why but that's how I like to do things. Anyway, after they get installed, I'll leave my not so favorable feedback in the appropriate places. I'm sure this won't be a big deal a week from now but for today, I am annoyed. lol

Got the tires installed but... there's always a but <sigh> Too many of the tabs broke on two of the center wheel caps to reinstall them. I know it wasn't the tire tech's fault. He was very gentle and really took his time, but 20 year old plastic doesn't last forever. Soooo, did a quick search to see if replacements were available and 'OUT OF STOCK' seems to be the norm. I'm wondering if a couple of dabs of silicone will hold them on or if anyone has a better idea?

There are a few options for the center caps. You could try to silicone them in, but that would mean having to do that every time you wanted to take the wheel off. You can find them used online, though condition varies. I've also seen someone use center caps from a different car (can't remember what, but I seem to think it was a Pontiac of some sort) that look different, but IMO, looks pretty good. I'll see if I can't find more info on those later

I've been thinking about my broken tab problem tonight and I'm pretty sure I can fabricate some replacement tabs out of thin sheet metal and epoxy them in place. I figure I've got nothing to lose so I'm gonna play around with it over the next few days and see what happens.

I made a quick trip to the dollar store and bought a cheap cookie sheet ($3 and change). It took me about 30 minutes to cut out a couple of strips of tabs like a comb, fold the ends over and pie cut the bends so I could make a circle, get the angles to match and epoxy it in place. The center caps snapped firmly into place and didn't come off when I gave them a tug, so here's hoping they stay in place... :eek:k3:

Good work! Now let's just hope they don't come off going down the road and get run over by a semi!

I like the tires so far. My overall impression is they grip a little better than the Kumho Ecsta SPT they replaced. Corning and breaking is firm and they instill a feeling of confidence. I can still spin them as easily as the Kumhos from a standstill but I didn't really expect anything else. The car will fishtail if I punch it at 20 MPH and kick out again on the 2nd gear shift, although not as bad as it did before. With the Hotchkis suspension I can't really say anything about ride comfort other than if it's in the road I feel it, which is how I like it, and my exhaust is too loud to know how quite the tires are. I haven't driven in the rain yet so nothing to say about the wet traction. So far, I'm impressed.

I'm not condemning every online seller, just stating my experience so others can know what to expect, and if it goes better for other people then that's great. I expect the best customer service experience from every business I deal with, weather it's a $60 purchase or a $600 purchase, and I did not receive that from either company.
