LOUD roaring noise after 40 mph

Our 2009 Impala has been a good car..but this loud airplane like noise is awful. When you're inside the car it's almost deafening. What can it be?

wheel bearings are known to make a roaring sounds. need more details on when it occurs to be able to identify it better. does it happen when you turn left or right more so? if it is a wheel bearing it will gradually get louder and louder as time goes on, and possibly at lower speeds than 40. how long has the noise been occurring?

Doubt it's the wheel bearings. Mine is doing the same thing after changing tires. There is another thread that talks about alignment problems in the rear. It will make your car sound like a wheel bearing is going out. I had my tires trued, and it helped some, but it's still there. My fault for buying used tires off a guy with an 07 Impala. His car must have really been out of alignment. Mine never made this noise until I finally put the tires on.
