So much then I bought a black LSS. It had one one brake that worked, a pedal like a on Off switch, and a exhaust broken at the cat. It was a adventure and a half driving it back from Ottawa to my home, downshifting to slow down was also loud and hilarious to me.
The leather interior was great and it had the tail light covers (no bumper lip for what ever reason)
As I've swapped the interior from base bench to leather previously I knew what work was needed, so I started at that
i took the over head display and repined the base model connector (near trunk) to use the roof harness from the lss. very simple, pull pins, plug in at the right spot and splice the existing power and ground.
oh and dont forget the temp sensor behind the grill
at this point I knew what my end goal was for the car, so I ordered some stuff i wanted
c5 corvette reverse panel and some lsx stuff
hopefully i can find more lsx stuff along the way
Step 1) cut two huge holes in your bumper and hope they work
step 2) figure out "hey, that dont fit right" and then trim the top piece your plate lights mount to
step 3) slam her in and wire it up
at this point it was about to be September, i was about to move back to Ottawa for school, so i knew my car work was done. i drove and enjoyed the old girl, but unfortunately the winter was pretty rough in her. *60,000km later
the exhaust got a good hole put in it so it was time for a change
as i already know whats in store for the future (biggest update coming june 11th 2016) i went ahead and put two glass packs on, using a 06+ ss mid pipe, and a 06+ 3.5 res and two old school style square chrome tips she came out looking pretty good and sounded pretty nice too
at this point we are caught up to today,
today I bought some marine/winter grade black vinyl to wrap my dash, the heater vent trim panel, and the uppers of the door panels, aka all the dark grey.
used some heavy duty vinyl safe contact cement, hated my life for the next 8 hours, curing and swearing.
as it turns out im not a interior guy but i gave it a shot and im very happy with the outcome
Love the story and pics. Looks great. I never knew about the license plate and reverse light Corvette mod. Looks great. But please, stop putting stuff on top of your trunk!
aha Usually, im just as paranoid but i bought it from a lady who constantly put her purse on it (also it has a ss spoiler now that i forgot to post about). some day she'll get a full new paint job...when shes done...if these kinds of project cars are ever actually done that is
as for the reverse light panel I dont even remember seeing one done, i just heard from someone that they heard from someone it fit so i got it stuck in my head so bad i gave it a shot. the end goal the trunk panel will be blanked out so no tail lights no reverse lights on the trunk (like the slp lsx)
Just my 2 cents. I like the wheels on the bottom pic just a little bit more than the whites, but not by much. That's a hard choice but I think you'll win either way. She's looking good!
duplicolour perfect match, it came out really really well once i wet sanded them and all. But being young and dumb (inexperienced more so) i threw them on the same day, where i should have waited like 3/4. so a bunch of dust got absorbed into the clear and wrecked it
its kind of a joke because some of my friends call it the ricepala, but its kind of not a joke if what i think i get on thursday is actually coming or not. but like ive mentioned thatll be a surprise just incase it doesnt come
The duplicolor clear itself is not very good. The UV protection breaks down quickly, causing it to fade out and eventually start peeling up. I would use a 2k clear with a hardener, for example spraymax
Unfortunately not.much you can do performance wise for the 3400,the stuff that can be done you might make the power of a 3800, but the gear ratio is also really bad for the 3400/base impalas
Of the two pictures, I like the ones on the left a lot more than the ones on the right. That stack of 3 small lights on the right set just kills it for me.
I find the beam pattern to be comparable to stock, a little less scatter actually. Have never been flashed for my HIDs, either in these housings or the factory housings. I have them aimed so that they aren't blinding people, and the scatter doesn't really go up too far, more so outwards.
I have a buddy who used to have HIDs in the second set of halo lights you posted. He hated them so much, he ripped them out one day and threw them in the trash can. Didn't even try to sell them on craigslist or anything. Anecdotal, but gives you an idea of how the light output on those things was (not good).
That is the plan i have some SLP LSX badges to be put on along with the grill. I even have the floor mats and key chains (Unfortunately I can't find the spoiler. So the ss will do)
But for the big surprise on why it's called racepala AND for the LSX (kinda) body stuff? See next post....
