What do I do now?

I bought a "GM Certified" 08 Impala with 61k just 3 months ago, like just made that 3rd payment Monday.

Ive had a few different threads on all the mechanical problems Ive had with it already. Ive made over 10 trips back and forth to this dealership (20 minutes one way from my home), spent numerous hours waiting around at the dealership, had 4 different loaner vehicles and even spent a 4 day weekend at home because the car broke down on a Friday evening and the following Monday was a holiday.

This is the list of replaced parts and things done in my many trips to the dealership:
Front wheel bearings and hubs replaced,
All the lock actuators repl.,
Spark plugs repl.,
Catalytic convertor repl.,
Fuel cap repl.,
Gaskets repl.,
Front rotors repl.,
Rear rotors machined,
Both stablilizer shafts repl.,
Transmission lines repl.,
Oil cooler repl.,
Transmission line cooler connectors repl.
Repeated room trim popping up. They glue it back down and few days later its popped back up.

Current problems Im having are a random squealing nose when I turn, random loud knocking when I turn my wheel completely left or right and a shaking/vibrations I can feel through the gas/break petals and seat.

Ive contacted GM and Ally (my financing bank) already. Every time I call the dealership I feel like they treat me like Im nuts. They cant find whats causing the trouble and write it off as "couldnt replicate the issue".

My husband and I have bought 4 cars from them in the past 8 years and never once needed to use our warranty nor had a complaint of ANY kind.

Honestly at this point I just want a replacement car. I feel like this one has too many issues and they are not easily (or willingly) fixed. What do I do? I feel so helpless.

Give another dealer a crack at it IMO. Take them for a ride and duplicate the problem for them, or, you and your hubby take a ride together and passenger vidoes noises/events.

I have taken it to another dealership they replaced the serpentine belt for the squeal sound. I hasnt even been a week and its making the same noise again

Never thought about trying to get a video. The noises are very sporadic though. Some days it will do it more than once, some times its days between.

I don't blame you for being PO'd and I would be too.
I think perhaps Katie from this forum may be one option available
The dealership OWNER may be another option as well.

They can keep trying to fix this car for you but at this point I think you are done with it ( mentally ) and don't trust it to take anywhere and that is a crappy feeling for sure.
Sounds like you may have got a "Friday before long weekend car" from the assembly plant.
That/those are a ton of issues and it almost seems that this car you have may have a different past that was/is not being disclosed.
Those are a TON of issues for a 4 year old car with only 60,000 on it.
( IMO)
Other than the options I have listed above and short of parking it in a "bad" end of town with the keys in the ignition I really don't know what more to say.
Independent inspection of the car to see if it was re-built from a wreck someplace may be an option too.

I still think Katie is your best bet on this one though

That is my thought

Paul

So are you saying that the noise temporarily went away? Belt tensioner?

The clunking may be your Intermediate Steering Shaft which would be like a $300 replacement and IDK if thats under warranty.

The shaking/vibrating could be that one or more wheels is out of balance, may be time for an alignment/balance.

The squealing during turning may be a bearing or joint that needs replacement or lube. Note sure.

Sorry to hear about all the problems, thats not fun when all you wanna do is use/enjoy the car. I hope it all gets squared away quick. Let us know if we can help any.

I called the sales guy, gave him 4 hours to call, he never called. I stopped at another dealership a little closer to where I live ( where we get our oil changes and latest work on our Envoy done) and talked to the mechanic who knows whats been going on with the car. He said call the manager of the dealership directly. I went home and did just that. Within 10 minutes I had a call back and he had me trek up there yet once again to "solve the problems once and for all". I was there for over an hour but of course they could not replicate the problems. They cleaned built up dirt from my wheels to solve the vibration/shake I feel in my seat. What a waste of time and gas. Once again they looked at me like Im nuts.

I didnt hear or notice anything on the drive home but I guess we will see over the weekend.

Poor Pink
I feel for ya
But ,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Don't let it go !!!!!
Whine, whimper, scream, yell, throw hissy fits, tantrums, whatever it takes.
You got a "Certified Car" and it should all be looked after. "Certified" must stand for something.

I know personally of a guy that got a replacement for the "certified" ( or whatever the term was back then ) used vehicle that he had bought. ( similar headaches, the orig owner apparently got rid of it for a reason)
It ( replacement ) had a couple more miles on it, a different color, but worth the same Black Book value as the crappy, trouble plagued one he had.
That was 10 + years ago and he's still driving it.
Maybe they have another 08 on the lot.
Might be cheaper for them in the long run to give you that one and save all the drama and expense of them repairing the "certified" one that you have now grown to hate.

Maybe
.................................................. ........,,maybe

I forgot to add the best thing that was brought to my attention this afternoon.......

My warranty only has 3000 miles left on it and I have until October for my power train warranty.

Just drove a few miles down a smooth road going 60 mph and the shake/vibration is still there in my seat.

INSIST on another car !! Period. Get the regional manager's name & number and call him/her. Let the dealer know that's what you are going to do....DO NOT WAIT.

Preach it Gregg-o. I am pretty sure you are protected under the lemon laws. Here is a little reading for you.

Michigan Lemon Law Statutes | Michigan Lemon Law Attorneys | Michigan Lemon Law | YourLemonLawRights

From what I can tell, it is saying that if you report a defect in the vehicle that is detrimental to the performance or value of the car within one year of purchase to the dealer, then they have one month to fix or replace it. At the end of that month, if it is not fixed, they must give you a full refund.

Then there is the customer law...."the customer is always right". If you have done business with a place for a while than you can demand that something be done, hell even a first time customer can if the bitch loud enough.

Ive decided to call Monday morning and say I will be up there at so and so time to exchange the car for something else. I was driving down the highway last night and the shake is without a doubt still there. Drove through a parking garage and the car squealed twice withing a minute of each other. It echoed and people were staring. Completely embarrassing.

Im looking at their online inventory and I dont see anything comparable to mine. What do I do then?

Here is a link to their site. Should I consider something else?
Graff Chevrolet of Mt Pleasant | Chevrolet Dealer | Mt Pleasant, Michigan

If I trade for another Impala I do not want anything older than an 08, no more miles than the 65k mine has, an LT model with a front bench seat. The front bench seat is the one thing Im not willing to waver on. It has to absolutely has to be able to seat 6 if needed.

An Acadia they have caught my eye while we were there Friday waiting around, but really I dont want to give up the MPGs I get with my Impala. Im averaging 28. On my drives to and from town Im almost always in the 32-38 mpg on the instant reader. I live 12 miles from the local Walmart and a good 20 minute drive from anywhere worth going. Ive read alot of reviews saying the Acadia/Traverse line does not get the MPG they claim it does. The space would be a major plus though.

Im just confused. Ive never had to do anything even close to this with a vehicle.
