Im having problems with my 96 Impala SS and i need some serious help...

Well.. I've got an Impala SS 96 and it was serving me well for about 2 years with no problems up until recently i noticed some strange engine behavior. During acceleration when i stick at low RPM and unto 2nd gear it suddenly starts vibrating but when i start speeding up the vibration stops.

Now followed by this issue i also noticed that the battery was heating up abnormally along with some of the wirings attached. I couldn't figure out what exactly was causing this so i gave it my bet and decided to have the battery replaced. However, the problem is still there and even worse now all of a sudden the speedometer and RPM gauge stop working. Are these gauges electrically controlled?

If you have had any similar issue and got it fixed please advice me. I've really depended on this car and it has served me well, but seeing it this way is really upsetting. So yea any help is very much appreciated.

Edit: ok after reading the sticky i also want to add if/any modification ive done on the vehicle.
The only changes i had done earlier to the engine was replacing the stock air filter and the box with a Cone air filter on the same stock pipe. It worked well for almost 6 months so i doubt it could impose any problems now.

Also i had blocked the air from the home plate in order to allow a direct air flow using the plastic cap from a coffee jar but now i took it off although it also worked well for about 6 months.

Other than what i had just mentioned everything else on the car is stock.

I would check the grounds. The one on the block sort of between the alternator and waterpump in particular.

That is worth checking too BUT last time I had an alternator putting out over 15 volts it was because of a bad ground, the regulator turned out to be fine. My understanding is the bad ground causes confusion to the regulator.

In pretty much any electrical problem check grounds first, cheap, easy and often but certainly not always the case.

The way I was able to identify a bad ground as the cause of my alternator overcharging was I happened to have a spare alternator and swapping it in did not help the problem. Most of you aren't going to have a spare alternator laying around though.

If you do find it overcharging check the grounds and take the alternator to about any parts store and they can test it free.
