2001 Impala 3400 PO401. EGR or wire?

Hello. I've had this 2001 impala for a few years, it started like crap and ran like crap (died at stop lights, died turning right-unless I kept my foot a little bit on the gas petal) for the past 2 years. My we just got around to replacing TONS of sensors (map, pcv, about 3 more) and fixing a bunch of vacuum leaks. Runs 2000% better, starts beautifully, idles perfectly, runs better then my dads 2006 malibu.

But the check engine light is still on. We went to O'rileys and coded it, result was PO401. After some research, I found it could be the EGR valve (not map since we replaced that). the tubing to the egr valve...but...one thing we did notice is there was a green wire coming out of the main harness on top of the engine, since the EGR is electronically controlled, this could be the reason. I tried to go online and look up what that wire is, got conflicting results, useless results, wiring guides for the freaking radio. So, i'm asking you guys.

hard to find an engine pic that encompessed the wire harness i'm talking about, but I finally found one that BARELY does. closest thing I can come up with. DOES that green wire go to the EGR or something that can cause a 401?

Did you remove the EGR and clean all the passages in the manifold out behind it ?

Might be some of them clogged

Not sure about the wire though

Umm, was there something wrong with this particular wire? There are lots of wires, why is the green one special to you?

sorry, when I say 'coming out' of the harness, I mean, its disconnected from the harness, seems pulled out, not sure how this happened

Ah, got it. Well, the first thing I notice is that there are 4 green wires running through that plug, we'll need to know which one pulled out.

heh, thats it! actually theres two (two on each side). One to starter, one to the computer that hooks to a component ontop of the egr valve.

check engine light is off. Last thing to do is get this crappy buildup off these headlights, get a compressor charge (we thought it was slinging oil, still not sure if it is, so he disengaged the cluch)-but did find out the waterpump was slinging antifreeze, which he replaced. get it inspected, get a second oil change (first one was detergent cause it hasn't been changed in like nearly two years). Should be good, glad it wasn't the transmission sensor, that can cause dying, but mine never died when it was going over 10mph, which the TPS can cause no matter how fast you're going

thank you for your insights. Good car for 12 years old, all my family owns chevys (mom has 2008 impala, dad has 2006 malibu), this is texas after all

(my last car was a 89 dodge aries-k...when it was as old as mine is now, it threw a rod, after we put 2k into it finding out it was the fn' computer all along-we bought it for 1200 in '01...POS)

This is what happens when you have a father who is good at cars...and electronics

well craptacular, the light is back on, I figured it would of came back on during the first trip if it would of at all, but no, getting dinner tonight it did. So, we'll blow the hoses out to it and the evaporative purge solenoid, if that does not work, I have a friend of a friend who can pass it if it passes just the safety inspection. My dad said I should go ahead and get a new EGR cause it will effect my milage, which seems to have been very bad for the past 2 years. $75 bucks for that damn thing
