2008 Impala passenger dash clicking

I just bought a 2008 Impala last November and have not had a single issue till today. After travelling about 30 miles with the AC on and set to inside, I turned the car off and started hearing a thumping from the passenger side dash. I tried turning the car on and off a few times to see if it would go away, but it did not. I finally turned the AC to vent, then back to inside and shut the car off and it stopped. Later I went to the car to get something out and just opened the driver side door and the thumping started again. I was able to use the same technique to get it to stop. After driving home, I had the same issue after another 30 miles. This time the trick didn't work at first, but after a few tries I got the thumping to stop.

I think it might have something to do with the vent baffle, but I have seen a few posts about the BCM relay causing the thumping sound. Any insight would be grateful.

Thanks,

Yeah I got the part off and need to order the replacement. For now i just have it set for the inside air so my wife can get around till I have time to run to the dealership and get a replacement part.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm having the same problem on my 2006 Impala, I wasn't able to get to the screws to remove the motor, so I just disconnected the electrical connector for a temporary solution. How did you get to the screws to remove the motor? Any suggestions.

Thanks

yea this post was helpful....I have an 08 SS also and it just started making that loud clicking noise also. I didn't think my wife knew what she was talking about until I heard it for myself yesterday. Where exactly is the "blend door motor" located so I can just replace it myself?....I'm sure the Chevy Dealership will charge me an arm, leg, and 2 feet to replace it...lol

No, the noise you are hearing are from the servo motor that control the vent from inside to outside air. I had two of the motors go bad, one as I mention and the other was for the passenger side temperture control vent. The GM part # 15844096 (made in China) GM sells them for app. $40-$50. These two were fairly easy to replace, I replaced both motors in about an hour. You will need a 1/4" rachet driver and 5.5mm socket. The easiest way I found to get to these two motors, is by removing all items from glovebox and let the gloovebox open down to the floor. You will have to help it pass the stops. You should be able to see both servo motors from the glovebox opening. I would first verify that you are removing the correct servo motor by unpluging the power connector first and trying it to make sure the noise stops. I hope this helps.

This good info to know. But, has anyone thought that maybe there is a problem with the Remote start telling the BCM to turn this on? Mine starts clicking when I open my door when the car is not running. I would think after replacing parts and it happens again to look into the Remote/BCM potential.

Vent door chatter

After replacing the two servo motors, I opened the gear cover on both servo motors and found both had gears with broken off teeth which cause the vent to chatter. My chatter vent doors issue was resolved by replacing the two defective servo motors.

Driver side vent location

I registered because of this very problem on my 2009 Impala SS. My clicking seems to be isolated to just the driver side vents. Is that accessible from the glove box as well?
I only had to replaced the inside/outside vent and passenger temp. control servos so far and they were accessible from the glove box. I'm not sure where the driver vent control is located, Sorry!

Help. Ac making knocking noise

I have a similar problem. I just bought a 2007 impala lt with the 3.5 L v6. There is no problem with the ac when its on but when I turn it off it makes a knocking noise from the passanger side for about 30 sec then stops. It ony does it after turning off the ac or vehicle. I was looking this up but saw a couple different answers. Can any one tell me what this could be and explain to me how I can fix it? Sorry for asking again if already answered but im still having trouble with this any help would be greatly appreciated.

ab2, I had this problem twice now. I will paste my previous answer to this question below:

By the way the plastic gears on the servo motor break off causing the servo to chatter, causing the knocking noise.

Mine just started doing that as well. I just had the drivers side servo replaced with the same exact problem, except it would additionally grind for awhile after I turned the car on.

When I brought it to the dealership, they said the servo was getting stuck in the on position, which actually drained and killed my old battery.

Previously, it was the blend doors, but I think the problem now is whatever actuator switches from windshield to passenger vents.

clacking noise under dash 2006 impala

I removed one actuator and dis-connected the connector to the other actuator and I still get a loud clacking noise. How is this possible ?? Is there something else other than the fresh air and re circulating actuators that is responsible ?? Do the temp controls (dual zone) have
solenoids or something to make a clacking noise ??

Chattering from inside the dash area with no key and car sitting with no doors open, no engine running. Is there a relay that is receiving power from battery and trying to function? Sure sounds like it. Replace inside and outside air circulators already due to cheaply built plastic gear teeth. I have owened several Camaros and other Chevrolets and they ALL lack quality control and are usually electrical nightmares with improper routed wiring.

Agreed chevy still to this day has major quality control and electrical problems.

They majorly screwed up with the 8th gen impala's. We see this blend door problem all the time on here and the problem always comes back. Not to mention the tpms/keyless receiver or throttle body (reduced power/trac control) problem.

I will never own another impala newer than 05

Honestly, the actuator issues with the 8th gens are actually pretty minor issues. The issue is well known and can be fixed by yourself for relatively little cost. Really not that big of a deal.

ALL cars have their own set of issues. I'd rather have to deal with something simple like HVAC actuators than some major engine issues. In fact, I seem to remember that you constantly mention major engine-related gasket issues with the 7th gens, so in comparison, I'll gladly take the 8th gen HVAC actuator issues any day!

My point is that no matter what car you own, there are going to be "known" issues with it. The nice part about the 8th gen issues is that parts are very common and relatively cheap. The procedures to fix the issues are also well known.

Some of the most expensive cars available are also some of the least reliable cars - so even high cost is not a guarantee of a problem-free car.

On the other hand, the reliability issues with the 4-speed transmission in the 2006-2011 Impala *is* a valid concern! :)

The 7th gen gasket issue isn't really major.

I'd much rather replace gaskets than have unknown electrical problems.

The hvac is def not the only electrical problems with the 8th gen.

To each his own though. I was just stating my opinion as I know I am not alone and there are plenty of frustrated 8th gen owners.

Old thread but seemed to be the best one for my current issue. I have an 08 LT Impala and replaced the motor for the Vent blend door last summer. When that one went bad it was a slow thumping noise as it tried to close and the baffle skipped.

Now I'm getting a different noise, it's a little quieter and much more rapid noise, more of a clicking than a thumping. It seems to happen most while driving and turning the AC to off.

It is a dual climate zone car. Most of what I've seen online has been for the blend door. Where are the driver/passenger temp servos located? and are they the same motor that the vent blend door used?

Thanks for any help.
