2001 Impala Starting Problems?
sometimes when i go to start my car its almost seems as it only half starts, and the battery light comes on and the headlights come on if its dark, but i cant rev the engine or drive anywhere, so i have to turn it off and it always starts second time, but sometimes it starts and sounds like its going to die but then the revs pick up and the lights comes on and everything is ok, and a few times i go to start my car and i keep the key turned to the starting position for a bit too long and smoke comes from the engine, so i turn it off and everything is ok when i go to start again, the smoke always comes up right near the windshield at either corner of the hood, and i cant tell where its coming from, and finally my dad told me to pump the gas before i go to start it and that almost works everytime, but this problem only happens when the engine is cold, it'll work fine if i drive somewhere and then go to start it again

This may or may not be it, might have the starter checked. On my brother-in-law's truck he had a problem where it would not run while being cranked. The starter turned the motor over but not fast enough to get the engine to "catch and run" it would only spit and sputter. He tried for two months to get the thing to run before a knowledgeable person found that the starters rpms were too low. It could be that the first attempt to start is warming up the starter to turn faster on the second try. And when it does start on the first try but wont rev it may just not have enough rpms to anything else. Also pumping the gas peddle on a fuel injection before starting is useless. The computer knows how much gas to give the engine for whatever the tempature is outside. The computer uses several sensors to tell the injectors how much gas to give and it won't allow fuel to pass on a non running engine. Hope this helps.
