Abs/trac lights on. Diagnostic codes c-1218, c-1222, c-1233, c-1245. Does the hub need replaced or is it a wire issue. If it is a wire where should I look? Already inspected the hub - ohm reading when spinning the rotor was 1000-1100. Sensor lead was 5volts. visual inspection of the wires showed no break from the hub to main bundle(? Near the ac compressor I think - sorry not great at identifying everything in the engine bay). Visual inspection of the abs pump ground was good.

Any suggestion? :hope:

I thought I would post here, but if the mods want to move the thread over to the 8th generation that is fine too.

I just got the used oil analysis for my Impala. I changed the oil April 6. I was last changed December 15, 2012 at the dealership, using up my last free oil change coupon. They claimed to put in the Goodwrench Dexos 1 5W-30.

The car had 7,324 km total at time of oil change, and 2,906 km on the oil and filter. The OLM claimed 55% life was left. I replaced with a dealership AC Delco filter and Castrol Syntec 5W-30, which was on sale at Canadian Tire and has Dexos 1 approval.

The car had a lot of short trip use, a lot of remote start use at grocery stores and malls, but was kept in a heated garage. I will list the values and try to provide comments on accepted ranges, and values the testing lab had flagged.

Wear metals:

Fe: 11 (Should be under 50)
Cr: 0
Al: 3 (Should be under 20)
Cu: 14 (Should be under 30)
Pb: 0
Ti: 0
Ni: 0
Ag: 0

Additives and contamination:

Si: 19 (Should be under 30, is dirt or leaching from gaskets)
Mo: 33 (Good anti wear additive. Over 40 would be nice)
Na: 233 (WARNING level.)
K: 4 (Anti wear additive, corrosion inhibitor)
Zn: 838 (Anti wear additive)
Mg: 15 (Dispersant)
P: 739 (Anti wear)
Ba: 0 (Detergent, corrosion inhibitor)
B: 66 (Detergent, dispersant, anti oxidant)
Ca: 2081 (Detergent and dispersant)
Mg: 1 (Detergent and dispersant)

FT-IR analysis (Insolubles)

Soot UFM#: 3 (Probably due to direct gasoline injection)
Sulfation UFM#: 28 (WARNING: Probably due to short trip low temp use)
Oxidation UFM#: 13 (Best if under 30. Blow by, either low or hi temp use)
Nitration UFM#: 9 (Best if under 30. Hard engine environment, high temps, etc)

Viscosity at +100C: 8.8 cSt (WARNING. Oil has sheared down)

TBN: 3 (Warning flagged if under 2. This number is directly related to what the virgin oil TBN is. This oil was absolutely ready to be changed!)

Antifreeze: 0.0
Water: 0.0
Fuel: 2.5

So, based on the above, I will continue to change the oil at least every 3 months or under 5,000 miles. Direct gasoline injection is probably a harsh operating environment, and the variable camshaft phasing probably doesn't help

I will report back on how well the Castrol Syntec 5W-30 holds up. That won't happen until sometime the end of June though

A fuel line from the top of the fuel rail began to leak and the vents poured fumes into the cabin. I tried pushing the source down but to no effect. Is it connected properly or is it something else?

Hi everyone! :)

I recently got my parents' old 2001 Impala as a gift. I want to clean the stuff under the hood because it's very grimy, but I'd like to save some money and do it myself.

The problem is, I know NOTHING about cars and about the different parts of the engine.

From browsing the forum, I've read that some people (not everyone, I know, LOL) recommend that the air intake, alternator, distributor and "electrical parts" should be covered before washing just to be safe. The problem is... I have no idea what those are.

The electrical parts, I'm guessing are the battery and the fuse box? Where are the air intake, alternator and distributor located? Here's a picture I found on the internet. I have the legend for it, but it doesn't identify the parts I'm wondering about it. Could someone help me locate those parts?

I feel like this is stuff that should be easily google-able, but I haven't been able to find anything Impala-specific.

Thanks in advance!

In retrospect I believe I posted this post in the wrong section initially, My apologies. I first tried posting this in General Automotive talk, but then realized the error of my ways, so I'm re-posting this here.

2007 Chevrolet Impala 3.9L

I've had a check engine light on for a few months which didn't really seem to be giving me any noticeable symptoms except the light and potentially, if it's possible for it to be related, an occasional hesitation, then surge forward when accelerating only from a dead stop. More likely if I am sitting at the stop for longer then a few moments. I've gotten the code for the check engine light, which is P0499, which is telling me I probably need to replace my canister vent valve solenoid. Is it possible that replacing this part would help with the hesitation, surge, etc?
