What are the pros cons of regular car insurance and classic car insurance? I can see that I qualify under some points of classic car insurance but not all... I am storing my car in the winter in a garage but in the summer it will be in my driveway and covered. Since it will not be in a garage year round should I get regular insurance? When I called my regular insurance company they wanted me to get it appraised (which is over $200). I have some friends with classic cars who use Classic Car insurance and others who just use regular. Thoughts?

Hello,

I am hoping one of yall can tell me why I have no spark, thus it wont start! It will crank all day, but nothing.

Heres a list of all the parts ive replaced, trying to get this fixed.
Ignition switch
Distributor coil, module, cap an rotor
Plug wires, plugs
Voltage regulator
Installed two different distributors(HEI)
All fuses in the panel
Starter solenoid

Im just getting this thing to go round the block, ive driven it once around an I didn't like how it was running. So I parked it an didn't have time to get back to it for like a month. That is when this problem started.

Can anyone tell me something that I might have over looked, cause im starting to think that just driving it round the block once was enough juice to ruin the old harness. This car hasn't been running since 1985!

Any help would be great!!!

Hi all,

I am preparing to put headers on my 1969 Impala custom coupe it has 350 engine & th350 trans, PS, PB, AC.

I have already started spraying the ex. manifold bolts with PB blaster twice a day.

My real questions/concerns revolve around the driver's side steering box & AC bracket location (right side A/C)

I ordered the following - (and Summit guys were not terribly enlightening regarding the possibility of issues in the install):

Flowtech Headers - Manufacturer's Part Number:31100FLT
Starter heat shield - Mr. Gasket Manufacturer's Part Number:3678
Flowtech Bracket - Manufacturer's Part Number:10031FLT
Hedman Bracket (AC) - HED-20110

So has anyone done a header install on a 69 with the steering box that is very close to the driver's side exhaust, and where the AC condensor is long with the rear support bracket bolts connecting through the stock manifold (it appears that the AC rear bracket bolts are actually acting as ex. manifold bolts)?

ANy hints - suggestions... pictures?

I have seen suggestions that the motor mounts be changed... I have all but disregarded this due to the fact that the mounts which are in the car appear to be in good shape - possibly have already been replaced (not original block) - and realistically I am not thinking I will (by myself) tackle a header & motor mount install in one day on gravel with jack stands and 1 floor jack.

If someone makes the case to me that this is simply not an option I will reconsider motor mounts & bump the headers to another weekend, but I am really hoping that won't be the case!

If my AC bracket description needs supplementing let me know I'll snap pics tomorrow.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help or point me in a good direction!

Hello guys.

My neighbor is selling his 66 Impala and i was thinking about buying the car.
Im not a pro when it comes to all this car stuff so i just go and try to describe what i would like to change when it comes to the car.
I really love this car but it comes with air suspension, air ride with air bags.
There is a big pressure container in the trunk. (i hope that is right)
I would like to get rid of the air system and rebuild it like it was when it had his first ride. Or just change it to nice rims.
So the question for me is, how much does it cost to remove this air system and rebuild the car? When i sell the parts of the air suspension will this bring in enough money to pay for the springs?
He is asking for 12k and the car is missing all the molding, so i have to order them too. He told me the car is leaking anti frost and that could be repaired for around 200 bucks, is that true? I just dont wanna make a bad deal but i also want my dream car!

Thank you very much.

Hi, I recently sold my 79 2 door impala with a 305 for a 78 2 door with a 350. The 350 is crap, and I don't have the time to rebuild or swap the motor, so I want to pay a shop to do it. The thing is, what should I do? I heard that its possible to put a 90's LT1 into old schools, but at what cost? Would it be better to just buy a remanufacturer motor and pay someone to swap it? What would be a good year motor to buy?

Any responses will be appreciated. I am looking at spending 4grand max.

HI All

As part of my midlife crisis I've purchased a 65 impala SS 283 with powerglide and 10 bolt rear end

I hope to change this car to a Big Block with a T400 and 12 bolt just like I had as a teenager.

Obviously as I"ve got older my wallet has a little more in it but my memory is faiing so I have a few questions.

Small block to big block swap, are the engine frame mounts the same? I seem to recall different frame mounts for a BB but I can't find any documentation on that.

Crossmember, will the Powerglide Crossmemeber line up with a T400 short shaft?

The 10 Bolt has obviously got to go. My hope is to find a good core and have it set up with 373's or 410's, posi and real axles with C clip eliminators. I broke too many 12 bolt axles back in the day, I'm not going to chance that now.

I've read that 65-70 impala rear ends are the same but I've also read that only 65-66 will work due to upper control arm length differences and perch angle differences on the housing. Does anyone have any info on this? How about aftermarket rear control arms. Are they available? Worth the $$$$ I don't intend to do open headers and slicks but the car may see a local track at least once to see what it turns.

I've seen aftermarket "tubular" front end control arms. Do these really help the front geometry and handling?

The car is running now with the 283 but I hope to start assembling parts and tear it appart over the summer and fall.

I'm open to any suggestions anyone has.

Thanks in advance

Charlie

I recently bought a 1964 Impala about a month ago. I drove it home doing 55-60 MPH for a good 15 miles and then another 15 miles in the city. It had no problems driving home except a loud banging when I hammered on the gas and the brakes. The carrier bearing was very worn so we replaced the carrier bearing, all the u-joints, and the faulty brake system. Now I hammer the gas and no more noise and a lot more speed, AWSOME! Drove it around all night last night in the city with no issues. This morning on my way to work the speed limit went to 45 so I got it to about 50 for about 5 minutes and then nothing. The engine is still running, barely, and when I push the gas all the way to the floor nothing happens. Every once and a while when pushing the gas all the way down it will come to life for a second or two and then the same thing. Pull over and it dies. This happend a couple of times before I turned around. Once I got back to 30-35 MPH zone no issues. Any thoughts?

It is a 327 ci with a 2 speed power glide transmission.

Thanks

So. Comeing up here in July, I'll be quitting my job of 6 years to go back to school. In the process, I'll get my retirement money, which will come out to a little under 10 grand. I've put together a small list of things I'll be devoting around half of it to, which goes as follows:

Rebuilt THM350 tranny from Tempe Transmission Factory, for around a grand installed.

Fan controller:
Derale Performance Deluxe Adjustable Controllers with Pipe Threaded Probes 16749 - SummitRacing.com
Electric fans:
Summit Racing® High Output Electric Fans SUM-G4850 - SummitRacing.com
Heat shielded plug wires (Because my shorties have a tendency to melt stuff):
Davis Unified Ignition LiveWires C9051YL - SummitRacing.com
EGR equipped intake, to replace the spread bore 80's vette mani I use now:
Holley Street Dominator Intake Manifolds 300-64 - SummitRacing.com
Poly mounts:
Energy Suspension Motor and Transmission Mount Kits 3-1130R - SummitRacing.com
INTK Gaskets:
Fel-Pro Performance Intake Manifold Gasket Sets Q1256 - SummitRacing.com
Hi Flow water pump (I'm making a lot of changes to my cooling system, as in AZ with the old style AC compressor, I have a lot of overheating concerns):
Summit Racing® Mechanical Water Pumps SUM-312449 - SummitRacing.com
80 amp alternator to make up for the extra pull the AC and electric fans put on the system:
Tuff Stuff Replacement Alternators 7127 - SummitRacing.com
Tranny cooler so the thing will live a long time, even with my heavy-footedness:
Hayden Fluid Coolers 402 - SummitRacing.com
And finally, a 300hp/356tq crate from pace:
PACE Performance - GMP-10067353-4 Chevy 350CID 300HP Brand New Crate Engine (No Intake)

Dunno if you can tell, but I'm a Summit frequent flyer.

Keep in mind, my budget wont be much more than 5g, and without the tools to put it all in, a lot of that will be labor. Right now I've got about $600 bankrolled, and will probably get the tranny swapped before i quit, thus eliminating that portion of the bill.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or (reasonable) additions are absolutely welcome. After this bit, I intend to find a nice 9c1 rear end, but that will most likely be some ways down the road.

THINGS THE CAR ALREADY HAS:
Full mandrel bent X-pipe dual 2.5" pipes, Hedman shorty headers, 500cfm Eddy 4 barrel, blaster-on-cap HEI ignition, 3 row aluminum radiator, gas-a-just shocks, tach, water/volt/oil guage cluster, various other this's and thats I'm forgetting.

Hi all, just got a 67 impala wagon on monday, bright switch on floor is messing up, battery connection was crap, lights worked, then car died on me after I got off freeway, cleaned battery, all seemed good, now no tail or brake lights. BUT, hazards worked, used them for the 2hr drive home. I don't have any manuals or wiring diagrams, I checked the fuse panel with a dummy light, only the lower two glass fuses have power on either end of the fuse. Just got a new floor bright switch, and light pull switch, gonna go swap them and see what's what. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hey all, new to the forum.

I'm looking at buying a 69 impala custom, from what I've seen of it it looks to be in decent shape (have not yet seen in person yet as its a couple hours away) and is plateable and driveable now. has a 350 with some things done, Edelbrock intake, headers, has the turbo 350 trans, and working a/c. etc...

I'm new to older vehicles but do most of all of my own work, and have done body/paint myself before so that's no issue, have always wanted to have a nice old car to fix up and have been considering picking this up to use as a daily driver and a weekend project rig. My wife has a vehicle I can drive on occasion so it wouldn't be my only vehicle and am going to be getting a new truck as a daily driver in a year or so then it will be parked and rebuilt.

I'm just wondering what can be expected for cost of running an older 350 like this for gas, maintenance, availability of parts etc... also any known weak spots on them I should check out when I go see it?

Thanks
