I replaced the RR wheel hub on my 07 SS last night. I found a rubber seal all chewed up around the opening where the parking brake lever passes thru the vacuum plate/knuckle. The opening is oval shaped and the lever slides back and forth with the parking brake being engaged and disengaged. The brake cable attaches forward of the lever and the return spring is aft. I noticed the seals on both rears were chewed up.

Checking with the dealer, they don't sell the seal by itself, and want 160 bucks for a kit containing it. Needless to say, I don't want to pay 320 dollars for two seals each of which is about the size of a rolled up condom :)

I plan to check the junk yards, but expect to find used parts chewed up there as well.

Besides the junk yard, are there any other places to look? Is there an after market alterative?

Has anyone else noticed these chewed up on their gen 8 Impys?

I have a notion to try fabricating something using polyurethane glue and sheet rubber, but would rather not try that. So if anybody has some ideas, I'd love to hear them.

TIA.

Hello,

Recently I began having trouble with my 2003 Chevrolet Impala. While driving, the automatic locks will click as if they're trying to lock the doors and the 'Door Ajar' message comes up on the message center.

I figured it was probably the drivers door since it gets used most often, so in an attempt to troubleshoot it, I have disconnected the harness from the door switch on the drivers door. When I short the two pins, the door ajar light comes on. If the two pins are not shorted, I don't get the door ajar message...

But Here's the Funny Part

The door ajar message returned this afternoon. I've noticed that the only time I get these problems is when the outdoor temperature is in the 80 degree range or so and the car has sat in the sunlight for awhile.

On the way home today, the Door Ajar message appeared again and chimed continuously on the drive home. The dome and interior lights turned on and off and the automatic door locks chattered away just like normal.

I am going to be disconnecting the remaining 3 door switches this evening in order to try to find a faulty one.. The only problem is I will have to wait until the drive home tomorrow afternoon to see if the problem reappears or not.

Any other ideas of what it could be?

I've been doing some research and have found a faulty BCM as a possible cause if it turns out not to be the door switch.

Temperature is definitely a factor on whether the problem appears or not, not sure how that correlates to the problem, but I felt it was definitely worth noting.

Any ideas at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I've had my '08 SS for about 8 months. Got it with 38,000, now has 49,000.
I've noticed that when decelerating to a stop when it's cold, the tranny will shudder a lightly until it downshifts into 1st.
A month ago the throttle body went bad and was replaced under warranty and I told the service manager about the shudder then, and they said they couldn't duplicate it and maybe the new TB solved the problem.
Then last week the CEL came on and I was told the catalytic converters needed to be replaced. So I took it in to the same dealer and mentioned the shudder was still there.
I just got a call from them saying that they called GM Tech assistance and they said told to drop the pan and check for stuff in the pan, which they found.
So they are replacing the clutch pack under warranty. He said it will basically be like a new transmission when they fix it.
He did mention that this tranny is marginal for the V8 motor, which I had read many places, and he thought he had heard the new clutch material was a little different than the original to make it more durable.

Anyhow, I've owned a low mileage 08 Impala SS for 8 months and have had the Throttle Body replaced, the Catalytic converters, and now most of the innards of the transmission... oh, and it was eating the inner rear tires, GM said it was normal, I took it to an independent shop and they put cam bolts in the struts so they could get the camber correct to stop destroying the tires. I also put new Pirelli tires on because the inner tread on the rears was almost to the belts.

I love the power of the engine, but the car as a whole is underwhelming me for those reasons and other niggly things, like build quality, road noise, thin paint job, etc. etc.

I keep thinking to myself,
"GM, you've been building cars for over 100 years now, and this is the best you can do?? Seriously??
I kinda wish I had gone with Subaru or Audi...

1. Would it be "goofy" to get a moon/sunroof?

2. Anyone get a smell coming from the vents that resembles cat pee? (How in the world do you get rid of it?)

3. When going over 55MPH, the front wheels seems to "dance" on the road, meaning I have to keep the car straight more often than not. (Or are the roads here in CA THAT BAD?)

Thanks for the replies! :)

I posted this last year with no results. I thought I had it fixed last year but it's back this year. I have a plugged water drain from the A/C system. After running the air for awhile and pulling into the garage, no water drains on the floor. (A/C works good). The mold smell is back on the fresh air side. I sprayed some stuff from Advance Auto into the system last year and it started draining water on the floor but it stopped again. Anyone have a good fix to keep the drain open? 2006 LTZ.

I recently purchased a 2007 dark grey metallic LTZ and it has this horrible white and red painted pinstripe. It doesnt look like its in the clear coat, but Im having a hard time removing it. I went to pet boys and purchased a heat gun, which I tried this past week with little results. I heard easy off oven cleaner works, but I tried that and it didnt do anything. I applied the easy off then tried to rub it on the car, but it didnt do anything. I heard wet sanding might be the only option, but that usually take a long time. Any other suggestions?

Good day everyone I'm having a problem with my Impala, where I feel a little jerking when driving and its starting to really get to me now. I already changed my spark plugs and wires twice and still have the same problem. I also changed the fuel filter and I always use injector cleaner as well. My next step was to change one of the coils but I read in a forum that someone was having a similar problem and they just changed the ICM (ignition control module) and it solved the problem. I was thinking about going that route as well instead of changing the coils. But I think what i will do is try and see if I can get the coils test first and if these are checked out I would change the ICM before checking the injectors because that seems like a lot more work and I really don't like when those kinda parts have to come off my engine. So what do you guys think, anyone have any solution that they would like to share?

It doesnt get hot in the temp gage but i need to fix this before it gets worse. I have changed thermostats and flushed the cooling system. There is no water in oil and has me lost cuz i was thinking it was a head gasket but im not sure.

Ok so I've been doing a little research and all I need out of the ordinary stuff is a line converter correct? Any suggestions on which one to buy? I'm going to eventually upgrade the entire system but for now I'm going to do some decent mid level subs and amp until I'm ready to build a serious stereo. The bose sounds pretty good as is just lacking a little in the bass department so I'm going to do 2 12" cvr's and a 1000.1 kicker. What's the best way to hook up the converter? Also are there any head units that would look right in this dash it just seems like the shape of a double din would throw everything off.
