Installed some Pioneer 6 1/2" 2-Ways in the front today and I have some notes that the sheet may not make very clear.

1. After removing the sail panel screw, door release trim, and door pull/power switch panel, there is a retention bracket that needs to be unscrewed behind the cup/power switch panel BEFORE removing the door panel trim.

2. For the first speaker I took off the door panel. It gives you more room to work with removing the old speaker and installing the new one. However it's more of a pain in the ass. See note 5 for another option.

3. The tweeter of the factory speaker is soldered onto the positive and negative connections. You'll have to cut the wires once you pry the speaker out to remove the speaker completely.

4. There are two small plastic posts that help secure the factory speaker in place. You may have to break them off and file them down (like I did) to make the new speaker sit flush and remain secure.

5. You DO NOT have to take the door panel off to remove and install the new front speakers! You can simply pry out and remove the speaker grille and go to work. However, when I did the left side door this way it was hell putting the screws in being right handed and having to angle the screwdriver just right to avoid the door trim.

6. Get the GM speaker harness if you can (Crutchfield threw them in for free). This will save you from having to cut the factory speaker harness wires and allow you to just plug the speakers in. No wire twisting and crimping needed.

Hope this info helps. My rear speakers come in next week. I'll let you know how it goes

Finally had a clear day to install the new Pioneer TS-A6964R 6x9" 3-Ways today. The sheet was pretty much dead on with removing the seats etc.

After removing the bottom seat cushion, remove the two bolts from the back cushion bracket.

Fold down the rear seat cushion and remove the four bolts from the back plate. With the bolts removed, lift the entire back cushion and remove it from the car.

Remove the three plastic retaining clips and lift the rear deck panel. After 11 years of heat, the cushioning was stuck to the panel pretty good towards the back closest to the window. I just had to pry it away.

Press the plastic clips on the side of the factory speaker bracket to remove the speaker and disconnect the wiring harness.

Once you have the speaker bracket out, remove the screws securing the factory speaker and pry the speaker out. Install the new speaker and secure it with the same screws.

Connect your speaker wiring adapter to the new speakers (see front speaker instructions above for info) and connect to the car speaker harness. Replace the factory speaker brackets. Now you can test the new speakers before putting everything back together.

All in all it took me about 1 1/2 hours to complete. Looks like I may need a sub. I will NOT be doing that myself!

I just finished putting Rockford Fosgate Prime in my rear deck this afternoon before it rains. Took about a hour. I have fold down seats in my 04 Impala LS so did not have to bother the bench seat. Now I need some wire to reach the head unit as the wire that came with the speakers only made it to the front passenger seat. I been working on this new after market stereo project for a week, taking my time as I went with the rewire everything route.

Me too. So how did you get to the speakers without taking the folding seats out? The bolts for the falding seats are under the bench seat.

Wow! I thought about replacing all the wires for all of 30 seconds. Way too much work for me.

When the fold down seats come down the 4 bolts behind them are exposed. Two bolts on each side and get some pins holding the carpet down and the rear deck comes out.

Ah, so you just moved the backplate for the folding seats forward instead of removing them completely.
