Fuel filling issues

Just bought an 05 impala for the nanna. When filling the tank, the gas pump handle clicks of about 100 times....arg! i replaced the fuel vent solenoid and still not fixed. NO MIL LIGHTS either. Was going to shoot for thepurge solenoid or possible canister plugged, but if those go bad wouldnt a MIL come on? Just look for advice. Perhaps i should check the hose from the vent solenoid to the canister too......thanks folks

The pump shutting off repeatedly.
I've had this happen before (with almost every vehicle I've owned).
I found that if you pull the pump nozzel out of the filler neck (just a lil' bit) it will stop shutting off on ya.
It almost seems like gas is splashing back into the nozzle tip, triggering the shut off.

Dia442, evap codes won't show a MIL right away. Evap codes usually come on after 3 cold to warm runs of the engine. If its a new issue, it may show a code in the following week.

well, its been 30 days now. no matter hopw the handle is positions it clicks off. I have done a lot of reading on the evap system and seems rather obvious to diagnose if you have a tech-2 scanner and a smoke machine which i do not. i will start with the filler neck adn then check for obstructions in the vac lines etc....any other ideas before i tackle this annoying problem please advise......thank you

Put the lock on the first notch, fill it slow.

You guys just don't get it. There is something differently wrong with these cars.

It doesn't matter how you hold the nozzle, how slow you set the trigger. The neck fills and clicks the nozzle off. It can take 20 minutes to put 10 gallons in my 04.

There is a vent line or something blocked, or maybe the filler tube is collapsed. Wish I knew.

Hmm no issues with my 01. I am sure if "alot" of these impys had this problem "we" would hear more of it. Therefor, I believe you have a not so common issue going on. Likely a vent line or filler tube issue as you stated. I have had this issue happen "once" and went into the station, asked about it and the lady came outside and stated "this pump has issues so, pull the nozzle out a bit the, pump". Was no problem then. Def something abnormal going on if it takes you 20min to pump 10gallons. It takes me 4min tops for that even with pre-pay (much slower).

Same here.

Not sure how the filler neck is configured on that car, but I had a truck years ago. I replaced the fuel tank and had a slight kink in my fuel filler neck. Fixed that and the problem went away...

Have you tried easing up on the gas pump handle? I find that if you squeeze it fully, it will click too soon, but if you fill slowly, it will take more gas.

i have this exact same problem. i have a 2003 3.4l base and it dosnt matter how you hold the pump handle or the nozzle it will keep stopping. its like the fuel isnt going into the tank as fast as the pump is pumping it in and it clicks off like its a full tank. so i have to stand there and look like i dont know how to pump gas trying to put $25 in my tank. it sucks.
