Searched the forum but only found 2 year old stuff. I'm looking to get a tuner/programmer for my 06 Impala ltz. Not sure whats all out there but autozone has a bullydog power programmer for 219.00. Wondering if anyone has had any luck with these? Or should i just steer clear of them? Thanks!

Confusion happens guys. I'm just trying to relate info the same way I was taught, because I too did not know anything when I first got into cars.

Nitrous, s/c, and t/c's are a very tricky business. Even something as small as a 50 shot shouldn't be taken lightly. It's good to ask on here, but please consult a professional before determining which direction you'd like to go. The last thing we want is someone to come on here saying that we suck cause he listened to us and blew up his motor

Anybody want to try the sand porting? Thats the one where you run a hose off the intake into a bag of sand, it is supposed to do a good port job. Any takers?

#34 ·
Would the port polishing with a bag of sand work with my turbo? Also how about rock salt instead of sand? If I don't hear back from you guys in 60 Seconds, I'm going to go outside and do it.

#37 ·
Did you use the salt, or the sand? Or did you cheat and use beach sand?

#40 ·
well i didnt mean to start an argument lol. i was just weighing my options. as said above bolt ons are not available for this car. i may just stick with the overkill tune and performance stickers for hp LOL. thanks for all the info guys i appreciate it!!

just stick with the overkill tune and performance stickers for hp
as someone who considers myself an expert in applying stickers, i must say the horsepower gain i have recieved is astronomical! I thought I was crazy at first, but after a few stickers I got addicted!

^^ Finally some real data! It seems like a factory box with a cone filter inside is the coldest and best option. And all these guys with $200 plus CAI intakes thinking they have the best. Holy cow a $120 paper filter that does nothing? ouch

Im still sticking with my pod until I start my project. I then will be routing the pod into either the fender or grill and possibly adding a heat shield. There is no way im putting a gigantic airbox back in my car.

^^^ Too late to edit

Anywho, I believe a dyno test is not definitive enough. A real world driving test with a tech 2 scanner attached, watching and recording IAT would be. There are too many variable's with a dyno test.

An r34 with only 220hp. I bet he gets laughed at alot. lol

Impaler: I bet you could easily smoke that nissan

the r34 I'd considered the rarest and best skyline ever.
Indeed it is a good skyline but, It needs more power (one in vid). That's just a waste of a skyline if you ask me. But, people have done worse.

#51 ·
Most likely that particular model is bone stock. Remember this came out like early 2000's so 220 to the wheels isn't too bad for the period. I don't know if there are different levels of R34, like twin turbo or single turbo, ect. It's not legal in the states so i don't read up on it too much

#52 ·
I think the point may have been missed here... First, that $120 was a K&N "gauze" filter, the stock was paper. Secondly, the pod inside the stock box made no gain. The only mod that had any gain at all was the ducted pod outside of the vehicle, very similar to ejbiers setup. That netted a 10hp gain, none of the others produced a consistent gain. And lastly, you seem to be putting way too much importance on the IAT reading, they repeatedly tested the IAT with the different setups, and determined it made negligible difference in power. Honestly, it appears that the only reason the ducted system produced more power was due to the "ram air" effect of air being forced in from the fan. Use the pod if you want, but try to understand what the tests actually showed.

Ooh somebody doesn't like me. Can you guess who guys?

Tricking the computer into thinking the temps are cooler is not a good idea. All its gonna do is dump more fuel which decreases hp anyway and also gunks up the engine.

And you o2 sensors have the final say on the a/f

I woundnt mess around with the iat sensor its ment to read the temps in the location that its in

What does IAT stand for? Intake Air Temperature, correct? If the intake pipe is wrapped in a thermal protector, IAT is moved closer, and possibly a heat shield around the filter, I guarantee you would see and feel a difference.

The problem with the dyno's: Those vehicle's did not have an egr system. An egr system would create way different numbers and outcome's on the various test's.

Edit: True o2 sensors do have some say but, so does maf, map, and IAC

What I didn't get about the video.was that it will probably be way more different when the car is actually on the street getting outside air. When wind is hitting the car and factory air hole at force. I understand its a dyno but it all depends on air induction as stated not still air inside a building that the engine pulls in. Different readings I bet. Any insight

#56 ·
they had a high speed fan blowing air at front of car, I thought

#58 ·
I still don't think the high speed fan can produce the same amount of moving air as say traveling at 70 mph. New plan... Put the dyno on a trailer and pull it behind a semi on the interstate

#59 ·
X2 or even the same weather condition.

I knw my car runs better without an aftermarket filter when its colder. In that situation with a fan its not noticable as you can see all filters are all the same in dyno when under a car. Of course there's going to have more gains when the FWI is outside the car. Getting air directly forced in and not thrue and headlight.

#60 ·
I've been considering taking 2 rectangle exhaust tips and bending them to fit the cutouts in my front bumper, connect the 2 with 3 inch pipe and run it strait into the factory air box. Kinda my own "ram air" effect.

#69 ·
Very good idea I think

#62 ·
Would really like to, just wonder if it would be an improvement overrun the fwi or not shouldn't really be hard to do or I wouldn't figure so atleast. Definitely would want some sort if screen over the openings since I see a lot of mud...

There arent any bolt on mods for these cars nor engine internals.

I did put a true cai in my car before they even made one and a half assed ram air duct though.
Not that difficult but not at easy at putting a filter on the end of my maf.

I have monitored my intake temps with my wifi obd2 scanner and ipad and saw great differences with my setup which leaves me to belive you dont need to move the iat.

Im always at or below outside air temp with my intake temps

Its not that i dont like you thats not the case but uneducated answers dont help people.

#70 ·
when i get the time i'm gonna go for it, for now i may just modify the factory air box. possibly gonna drill into it where the fwi would go through the inner fender and block off the front. as of now its just an idea in my head

oh lord no, i think thats just a filter housing a k&n or equivalent would be going in the housing
:eek:k3:
