67 vs 69

Hi everyone, new poster here been lurking for a little while though.

Anyway, I've been on the market for a classic implala but I simply can't decide between a '67 ss or '69 ss, assuming I had the option for both models. For some reason I also really like the '67 4door.

So, what are some notable differences with the two ss models, I know the 4 door won't be geared towards performance so I'm sorta shoving it aside for comparison.

Also if anyone knows the little things like mpg and 0-60, 0-100 speeds, how either car handles, I'd appreciate the info.

Google image's of '67-'69 impala and look .....cosmetic's where the biggest difference. Performance will depend on drivetrain options, you dealing with anything from a 327 to a 427, 3sp or 4sp or auto.

I've had a '68 and two '69 Impalas but I've never had a '67. My understanding was that the '67 through '70 were basically the same car with minor body differences. But for intents and purposes, they were all the same 119" wheelbase car and I don't know that you could really say that one handled better. It would just depend on what parts you put on it, they'd take the same parts (shocks, springs etc) I'm quite sure.

I don't know if you could really say that the 4 dr wasn't geared towards performance - you could order those cars with anything you wanted in them so it would just depend on the car. There probably are way more 2 dr's with high performance stuff. But 4 drs are a bargain price wise and I like them , especially the hardtops.

The '69 I spent the most time with had a Q-jet 350/TH350 and the gas mileage would have been in the 14-18 range (just recalling). I'm a broken record when I say that the biggest bummer on those cars was not having a 700R4 trans, that would add up to 5 mpg I'd think.

It would change the value for sure.

The hard part with an SS is that if you want a perfect one it's going to cost plenty and any "sort of good" one is probably going to need little "SS" type emblems and such and you might not be able to find them. Finding stuff for those cars has never been that easy because there was/is little following compared to other years. There's been very little repro stuff for them, for instance, can you buy the door panels and dash for a 1969 Imp? I'm not sure you can. Lots of parts from other years and models fit those cars, but the year specific parts could be, I fear, a bitch to find if you wanted it to be original.

For me, I'd get a 4 door in great shape real cheap and make it into what I wanted, but that's just me. For sure that would be the cheap method.

I've never heard of 67....How do you do that one? ;)

I see your point. I actually found an 69 ss in decent condition for an affordable price. The seller says he isn't sure if it's a real ss or not though, says the ss emblems were on it when he got it. It has a 454 in it, some custom rims and transmission, not sure what else as of now.
How is a person able to tell if it's a real 69 or not?

Anyway, after looking at tons of pictures online I think I like the 69 better. Still open to options though, been looking at the 69 mustang mach 1.
