77 Impala Build Sheet Location

Hi all,

Anyone have any luck finding a build sheet in one of their late 70s Impalas/Caprices? Just curious if they're typically tucked in behind the back seat or somewhere else. I'd love to find my actual build sheet.

I have not, I don't think they were included in the car at that time.

I though you obtained one from GM Heritage, according to your ebay listing?

I looked under the back seat of my '78 Landau when I got it and it looks like there might have been something there at one time as there was a scrap of the corner of a paper - yellow with age - and a piece of foam and aluminum foil about the right size to have protected a build sheet. If there was one there, it was most likely removed by the PO.

When I contacted them over a year ago, the GM Heritage Center told me that they only had the factory invoice for our cars. Here's a link to mine. If you got your actual build sheet, please let me know because I want a copy of mine too.

Thanks.

Yes, I did contact the Heritage Center, and apparently the person I was speaking with misspoke. They do have factory invoices, but some build sheets were destroyed when Chevrolet division moved (inadvertently). However, he was still able to look the car up in GM's system, but it took a good amount of prodding. I might try to pull the back seat, which always is easy...the tough part seems to always be getting it to go back in!
