Mpg

Hi you all,

Happy 4th of July to all of you.

I was wondering what the best MPG you all got in your SS's????? I'm planning on going on my first long trip in my 08' in December to Arizonia and slowly figuring what it'll cost me in gas would be???

Thank for any posts,

Durango

I typically make 5 hour runs from jersey to Boston.

When I first got the car, my average over the 270+ miles was 24 MPG (mainly highway). This was when i was really nursing the gas pedal.

Now that I tend to work my foot into it more, I easily get 22 MPG highway.

My overall average city/hwy is pinned btwn 19.4 and 19.7.

Manoogia86,

Thanks for your figures. I'm planning to take my first trip in my newly purchased SS early December to Arizona from L.A. so assuming it's all highway driving AND I keep the speed reasonable I hope to top your 24MPG.
Unfortunately out on the California desert highway the average speed is about 70MPH so I'll try to see what 65 can give me.

If you hold it at 70 the hole way you are better off, judging by the RPMs... either way if you are at a steady speed you will be in 4 cyl mode, whether going 60, 70 or 80.

Out in the West Im sure you will not have a probelm topping my best mpg!!!

Manoogia86,

Thank you for your swift reply. On the highway the average speed is about 70MPH including car/trucks/18wheelers. Those guys you have to be on a watchful eye cuz if your in their way be assured they'll tail-gate you to force you into another lane.

So far most of my driving is with in the city limiits street/highway/freeway so trying to experiment at different speeds is not available. Besides that the fastest is about 65 anyway.

Assuming I can make my first oil change before the trip I'm glad to hear that the cylinder management system will put me into the 4 cylinder mode even at those high speeds. I do intend to keep it about 70 though just to take it easy on the engine.

Thanks again,

Durango
