If there was a smily that was a sign saying "You're the Man", I would use it right now. That made me laugh. To rayss: Don't think I'm dissing you personally.. but I was one of the few who were lucky enough to inherit a 90's Impala. I know those are hard to come by nowadays so people have to go for the next best thing while they can. The newer Impalas ARE good cars, they do the job and fit in today's world of bland, compact, efficient cars. I just have always thought of the Impala (And the Mustang along with some other cars) to be in a different class than the every day, ho-hum sedan. The Impala is much more than just a sedan. Its name sake deserves more than to be reduced to something like what it is. You have no idea how happy I was to hear the rumors of a new TRUE PERFORMANCE IMPALA coming (and my subsequent sadness at its delay/halt) 50 years later and they celebrate the '58 with this?! Check this after the picture and tell me you wouldn't rather have IT http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..1.* ![]() __________________ SS My Anti Drug

50 years later and they celebrate the '58 with this?! Check this after the picture and tell me you wouldn't rather have IT [/QUOTE] On the first one I also cannot believe they came out with that car for the 50 annivery edition. Second, my Impala is still weighs 466 pounds less than that car, I would rather have the motor, tranny, and a better rear axle. For those in my car would make my car outrun it. It amazes me that these newer cars have more weight than mine yet the newer ones are made out of very thin metal and bunch of plastic. Then fenders of my car is as thick (or thicker) than the metal core support of the new car bumbers. __________________ ![]() 1977 Impala Sedan, 5.0L, TH200, 2.56:1, 100K miles, 37 Lifetime Warranty Parts. 1997 Dodge Ram B2500, 5.2L, 36RH, 3.21:1, 373K miles, 24 Lifetime Warranty Parts.

As for making these cars heavier to withstand a crash. IDC what anyone tells me. If I get in a wreck, I would trust my boat of a 95 Imp over one of these newer cars any day. __________________ SS My Anti Drug

Hey EU4IC I like the old impalas also. My first car was a 64 impala ss All I was saying is that if you only have one car it has to be practicle. My first choice of impalas would be a 1960.

Has anyone here been behind the wheel of a stock 1958 Impala. It scared the living crap outta me. They look nice and def. win in the cool factor, but imagine taking that on the highway everyday. The one I drove was from a resoration shop and the performance of the new impalas is far superior.

We have a few die hard square body owners, we have lots of exp. with older cars so the square body cars come here often with the usual carb, vacuum line, solenoid issues. Most are in excellent shape and 2 brothers (about 19 years old) inherited 2 square bodies from their grandparents...I have to tell you they are immaculate inside and out. However one is a nice marblehead metallic grey type color while the other is super chicken YELLOW :) |

![]() To Rayss- I understand what you're saying about the practicality, sure the car is dependable. But for just about the same price there is so many other better options available. A brand new Impala SS has an MSRP of $29,355 with 303HP and gets 16/24 mpg. A brand new Pontiac G8 GT has a marginally lower MSRP and is MUCH sexier while packing 361 HP and gets the exact same gas mileage. You can also get the Dodge Charger RT for about 2 grand more. with 340HP and the same gas mileage in a much sexier package. If Dodge can do it and GM can do it with the G8.. why can't Chevy with the Impala? Its disrespectful to design a car with so much heritage with so little style. __________________ SS My Anti Drug

EU4IC The thing is I did not pay that much for my car. I bought it used for less than half the price of a new one. I would never buy a dodge. The other reason is I like looks of my car. I do not understand why you don't like the new ones maybe because they perform better than the 90s impalas and style wise they look like black taxi cabs. They are too heavy and under powered.

Performance? The 13 year old Impala SS has a Stock PTW ratio of 16.1 and the BRAND NEW Impala SS has a Stock PTW ratio of 16.8. So basically, they aren't too heavy and aren't underpowered. I also have never had a problem with my 155,000 mile car save for the steering box which is now fixed. Thats about as good as you can hope for a car that old. There's a reason why it looks like a taxi cab, AND there's a reason why it looks like a police vehicle. The 94-96 Impala/Caprice was so dependable and popular that those industries wanted to use them. It remains a favorite in the eyes of many police officers and they say they miss it. You don't see the New Impala being used as a police vehicle do you? The Impala has by and by been reduced to an anonymous car used specifically for rental purposes. I'm not trying to argue with a fellow Impala enthusiast. You got a good car for a low price! But I guarantee those same strippers would've known exactly what a 94-96 Impala was ![]() __________________ SS My Anti Drug

Thats because your WIMPala is not even worth half as much anymore. I have stood by for a long time while alot of you guys think your front wheel drive car is a IMPALA just because Chevy decided to put the IMPALA badge on anything they could sell. Your FWD car is as fake an IMPALA as you can get. There are a few guys here who know about cars, who respect there cars along with others and have taken the FWD to a whole other level and I respect them unconditionally, you however..... you talk out your ass. About as much as your car LOOKS LIKE ASS. You also think your car performs better than the 90's.....that is possible up till late 93 when the Caprice/Impala came around with the LT-1. I have beat many a FWD WIMPala like yours because they think "wow i gots me a impala with 303 hp and i could beats anyting" They look pretty stupid when a 13 year old 260,000 mile car beats there ass. So dont disrespect other fellow Chevy enthusiasts for someone might disrespect you.....very publicly:) |

![]() I will second that I have much respect for the FWD owners that take their cars and do some serious work to make them true Impalas. But the fact of the matter is that there is no way that the 7th and 8th Gen. Impalas deserve to be part of the family tree. They're the bastard child of an otherwise rich and powerful family. Many years down the line when Chevy abandons the current body style, We'll all look back at how out of place these 2000's Impalas truly are. A stock 95 SS is a TRUE IMPALA A stock 08 SS is a LUMINA-PALA __________________ SS My Anti Drug

i honestly dont care what any girl says about my car, i absolutly love it... being a girl i honestly like big cars over smaller ones. even though mine is not the SS 2004 its only the step below it, it rides nice, looks amazing stock and runs beautiful. forget a honda or anything "ricey" they get on my nerves. i will drive my impala anyday over those.
