So I was thinking about putting Flow Masters on the ride and wanted to put exhaust tips on the end. Since I have the 2LT model and not the 2LTZ with the modified bumper, will I have to modify my current bumper to get the exhaust tips to fit or will it sit flush with no issue? If any modification to the current bumper for my style had to be done, how and what did you do to make it work?
I want the tips to come straight out but It looks as if they would either not fit or touch the bumper in some way.
I was thinking the same thing. I want that look and don't understand why Chevy didn't use the same bumper cover for all models. They should at least had it with all the V6 engines. I can get the LTZ parts and have a body shop mod the bumper but at this point it's a waste of money.
Yeah I didn't understand that either. I understand that the 2LTZ is the top of the line for the Impala but like you said it would've been nice to have that look for all the models.
I prices out the parts you are looking at $600 ish for everything and figure another $300 for paint. I will be adding the LTZ rear bumper early next year.
What dont you understand? Higher end models look different. Its not like its a new concept...Chevy has been doing this for DECADES. Stop whining, Suck it up. Pony up for the parts or the higher end model, or shut up. All the whining about how the LTZ has this, or the LT has that, or how come my LS doesnt have AWD and GPS, and genital pleasuring climate controlled seats gets soooooo f*cking old.
This seems to happen in every car group. I was in the with the Dodge crowd for a while and the SE guys wanted to look like the SXT, SXT guys wanted the R/T look, R/T guys wanted the SRT look and now the SRT guys want to be like the Hellcat guys. then you had the V6 guys wanting to sound like V8 guys.......It would get comical at times.
By the time you add aftermarket exhaust, new rear fascia (bumper cover) led DTR Lamps, Wheels/Tires ect... you could have just bought a 2LTZ and not have to deal with it.
If you do end up putting Flow Masters on, PLEASE upload a video clip of it! I have seriously been looking everywhere for people replacing their mufflers on the new Impalas and can't find anything. The exterior is so cut and aggressive, that I'd like a little more grunt out the back to match.
Nah man....hack them mufflers off. Be a trailblazer. I would go with a Borla or similar type muffler on the 3.6 before a Flowmaster though. I dont like the way FMs sound on the 3.6k3:

Not sure why that one guy is pissed off. Most people understand different trim levels have different options and sometimes different grills and etc.. But my V6 2LT has the same Engine and Exhaust as the V6 LTZ, usually in all car models similar engines have similar bumpers and exhaust. That's why I think it's strange that the 2LT doesn't have the same bumper as the LTZ. Actually the Two V6 Models should have that look and the rest of the models with the 4 should have the other bumper. And to reply to people that say people that by a base model and mod afterwards, well that is not the case with me. I wanted the V6 and there are two options, the LTZ version had added options that I didn't want or need. My 2LT has everything I wanted on the car. And you don't need to switch the entire Bumper if you have friends that own a body shop like I do. You can get the parts needed to mod the bumper for around $200 or less.
Right! I was like I know that different models come with different trim, who doesn't know that much smh. I agree, I didn't wasn't to switch out the entire bumper if I didn't have to. I guess just mold it so that the exhaust/tips won't rub and damage the bumper. I just have to look around for a good body shop that can fabricate well enough to fit.
Personally, for a V6 I'd go with a set of Borlas. There's a video of a Pontiac G6 (it's the 3.5, not the 3.6, but it's similar) with the Borla XS mufflers and a glasspack for a resonator, and it sounds good, and their ATAK line of exhaust sounds NASTY on everything I've heard, so if you can find an axle back for something with a V6, I'd buy it and hack it up to work on an Impala.
OK, guys I fully understand what everybody is talking about as far as "modifying" our rides the way we want.
When I bought my new 2LT the first thing I did was take it to my muffler shop and had him add stainless steel tips that stick out so you can notice them.
So as not to mess with the bumper slots he chopped off the factory "turndowns" and changed the angle so he could add the stainless steel tips which in my opinion look better than the big ugly hole coming out of the LTZ bumpers. The size of that hole was just too out of proportion in my eyes.
So I'm guessing I have the only 2LT with dual exhausts you can actually see. Also I see the new 2016 Impala is dropping the Autumn Bronze color, so I will probably have the only one of those also.
So does that mean if I keep the car for 50 years, it could become a "collector's" item???
When I bought my first new Impala back in 1959 and several new cars after that, you sat down with the salesman and ordered your car piece by piece, one item at a time. No packages you have to take to get maybe one friggin item you actual want. Then somebody came up with the idea to selling you a bunch of crap you didn't want in order to drive up the price. Hell of an idea I would say.
When's the last time you saw a new vehicle on the lot with no power windows, door locks, cruise control, etc... I could go on and on.
I guess I'm showing my age, but I kinda like all these gadgets and probably would have bought them anyway. Sure would be a hell of a long list on the order form.

When you look under an LT bumper, the hidden exhausts almost point STRAIGHT DOWN with very little angle.
He cut that angle off almost back to the mufflers, then WELDED the tips to the changed angle. He asked if I wanted him to cut out and reshape the bumper cutouts as to give it even more of a straight out angle.
I didn't want him to do that so my two stainless steel tips angle down but do come out far enough so you can see them. The factory exhausts are pretty well hidden.
I do like what he did to expose the dual exhausts. I think the LTZ cutouts IN THE BUMPER would look nicer if they weren't so huge. If you look close at them you will see just a small exhaust pipe pointing out from behind the center of that cutout. Just don't look right to me, but that's just me.
Anyway, I have had good comments from guys that didn't like the "invisible" exhausts on the LT models.

I was curious so I emailed Borla about an Exhaust system like the one MagnaFlow makes and here is their response. No, that is not currently on our plan list.

I decided a while ago that I buy my vehicles loaded so I am not left wanting for anything one model has over the other.
If you wait until the right time to buy, you can get that loaded car for the price of the not loaded version and possibly less. I paid less than 2LT prices for my 2LTZ.
I can understand the want to mod a vehicle. But people that complain about "how come the LS doesn't have option X,Y or Z as the LTZ" is kind of ridiculous.
Some people think that they will get a better deal buying aftermarket parts but my history shows aftermarket is not quite up to snuff (especially appearance items) to what the OEM makes for the vehicle. Performance parts may be good but as much as people say dealers have to prove it broke something, I don't want the headache of fighting warranty issues as my time is too limited.
In the end, an LS is an LS even if one mods the look to an LTZ and trade in value will be an LS with maybe a couple bucks more but not much for the trouble.
Also don't understand why people buy a nice, quiet, smooth car and try to turn it into a sports car. If you want a loud, fast car, then buy Camaro. Otherwise enjoy your nice smooth quiet Impala.
The stock exhaust note on the V6 is actually very nice as it is. I was extremely surprised and even reading reviews. Car and driver mentioned how awesome it sounds as well.
The stock exhaust does sound good. I'm just looking for at an exhaust upgrade to go with some other mods I will be doing. What I want to do isn't accomplished by purchasing a loaded LTZ. My 2LT has everything I wanted. My upgrades are more performance based not cosmetic.
Like I want to put a cold air intake and exhaust on it for a more aggressive sound. All the other stuff (mood lights, etc.) would be cool but it's not a necessity. If I can trade my current whip for an upgraded model then so be it.
You are right. It really depends b/c if the price is right for the other vehicle, then I don't mind taking the hit for the offset of the trade if it's not too steep. I would try and get the car when they are having a sale of course. I would try and get it at the end of the month or during a holiday.
on a side note, my pops has a XTS platinum, same motor as the 14+ impala. the exhaust on is has a slight amount of sound but its more of a upper end import sound... think muffled supra, GTR etc... At one time i looked for some used mufflers for mine but never found any.
if you take all the exhaust off the impala sound like a import.
Just delete my mufflers on 15 ltz. Sounds kinda like this but more rumbly, personally love the sound of yours. To each there own. Just a 22 yr old kid i guess
Sound is important, but performance also if you plan upgrading your stock exhaust. I personally prefer Magnaflow for 3 reasons: Sound, lightweight (vs. stock and Flowmaster) and rust resistant. But, my old 1993 K1500 is equip with a Flowmaster Force II, bolted to an Edelbrock headers and that truck sounds like a beast.
Knowledge is power, so, here I a link (in case you did not heard it) about MY2013 LFX with a complete Magnaflow Cat-Back exhaust.
I think the problem on the direct inject models will finding something that doesnt sound to import... Nothing worse than sounding like honda civic with a fart exhaust.
