pedal to floor and brake interlock clicking

for the past few months i thought the brakes were a tad spongy. but no biggie as i was always stopping ok and figured it's just me misremembering

today i get in and brake to the floor upon starting (usually is the opposite) and i hear and feel the clickclick in the pedal and in the shifter itself

strangely enough i just checked fluid for the 1st time ever last weekend and it was ok

so do i have to worry about the clicking besides it being annoying.just dont want stranded.

If the pedal went to the floor that's the main concern, get it checked and fixed.

You need to worry about the brakes failing - not stopping the car - getting in a wreck.

It sounds like the master cylinder may be gone.

If the pedal is going to the floor, I wouldn't drive it.

was just one time pedal to floor. rest of the time it was good.

so if the master is failing does that account for the clicking interlock?

Like others are saying - I would be VERY hesitant to drive the car! The brake may go to the floor again without warning while driving down the road. Definitely get it checked out ASAP - don't want to see you or someone else get hurt!

Was it a low-pitched whirring/grinding sound? As when the ABS kicks in?

Is that when the pedal went to the floor, when the ABS was on?

pedal only ever went to metal upon start up of car today. never before. driving 70 miles to work all was normal.

just past 2 days i notice down this hill ( with residual rain on road) that when i went over this hole in the road, the abs kicked on. but i never felt it before and doing this same route since i owned the car. i know all bumps and stuff on my route everyday. so why all of a sudden did it go on this week? no clue

i did think maybe was a bit of spongy brake pedal since beginning of this year. then about 3 months ago i put on new front brakes and zero change in that spongy feel. rears measure about 6 per inspection so hopefully they last until 200K

it's like there's something sloooooly happening. and the clicking of the pedal and feeling it in the shifter just was the wakeup call

they drove it and checked it out and said all is ok. he has a call into GM about the interlock solenoid. thats something new that i dont know if it's a sign it's gonna leave me stranded or what. any idea how hard it is to replace that. i probably can get used to the clicking everytiem i start up the car but it still is annoying. never did it before
