2014 LTZ w/Bose

I just bought a 2014 Impala LTZ with the Bose audio system and wanted to know what my options are w/o OnStar.
The Navigation appears to be useless. Is there an app or other way to put driving directions on the screen?
I have ordered an owners manual to try to figure the other options out.

Thanks for your help,
Joe

Unfortunately there is no installing apps into a 2014 Bose system. Do you have a navigation head unit or only turn by turn thru OnStar? If you have a navigation head unit you should be able to enter a destination without any active OnStar service. The newer 2016+ Impalas have both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You may be able to upgrade to that headunit and module (iO6) but it will run over a thousand installed. It is also possible to pickup a non-Apple/Android (iO5) headunit with GPS but again it's likely to be near 1k.

Unfortunately the Impala didn't get Android Auto or Apple Car play until 2016 Model year so that's not an option with your car. I currently use Onstar in my 2015 Impala. I'm thinking about dropping onstar and getting the AT&T unlimited data plan for the car at $20 a month then I can use wifi with my iPad to use Navigation. Sorry for the bad news but I've been pissed about this for a couple years now. Only other option is getting an upgrade from a third party giving you GM built in Nav but that will run you 1k

Thanks for the info!
I guess mine is OnStar only. When I touch the Nav icon, all I get is a large 4 pointed star with a N in the middle. No other actions can be made...

It looks like this unit is audio only.
No video through the USB, SD card, or CD player?

Dunno first hand, but seems I recall reading posts on here about the rosen units and having a navigation feature. Might be worth checking into.

Just use Google maps on your phone. It's free, and way more accurate than any gps I've seen in any car. Or, do it the old fashioned way, and look at a map before you head out, so you know where you are going.

Look into something like this (as mentioned above):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/172620163589 ($400)

and another one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROSEN-DB-GMS...s/301979650567 ($375)

You get the idea... :-)

Thought these Rosens were only for 8th Gen, good find, seems like they would work for his problem.

Yeah, these are a different type of solution than the Rosens for the 8th gens. Since the 9th gens already have a video screen, these are just "interfaces" that add GPS functionality to the already-existing screen. Similar result, just a different way of going about it (obviously, the Rosens for the 8th gens were "all inclusive", full radio replacements since the 8th gens never had a video screen).

But the GPS application used is the same as the one used on the 8th gens (although it's most likely a newer version) - and it's the best GPS navigation app I've ever used (and I've used quite a few). They use iGo Primo - or these may use the newer iGo NextGen (very similar). Highly recommended GPS applications.

I'd love to hear from someone that has actually installed one of these...

awhile back there was a person selling that unit on ebay for $50 but it said untested. I wasn't brave enough to buy it.

I have the $35 onstar plan, IMO it's way too expensive, the $35 one should be $19 a month

$35 a month? wth? We have had the top tier guidance package for 2 years now and both years they wanted $274 a year which is about $22.83 a month. I didn't even need to argue with them, may have been able to get it even cheaper if I did.

Are you actually paying by the month? Maybe that's why you are paying full price.

At first I hated that the OnStar navigation didn't show maps but I got over it and it works great for us. Love not having the Garmin hanging around in the way too.

This is what I pay, from their site. $34.99 per month15 or $349.90 per year15 Save nearly $70! Maybe I should complain. I like it too but I don't use it enough to justify the price
