Question 2017 - power for dash cam.

I just bought a 2017 Impala 2 weeks ago. My old daily driver was totalled, and one lesson I learned is I need a dash cam. I am struggling with deciding how to power it. My instinct is to take apart the overhead console and tap into that for power. It seems easier than snaking a line down to the fuse box.

Does anyone have directions on how to take apart the overhead console? On a side note, are there any decent online sources for service manuals? I see the 2015 on ebay for close to $500! I can remember buying them for $50.

Thanks in advance, Carl

About service manuals. Sadly with being a NEW car or even like you seen with the 2015 a newish car they are very price crazy. Even some of the 06 up and still over 200 now Problem is most times they are used and then sold off after a shop closes or maybe in a time where they where working on a car of a type of years and then no longer work on them. Being as new as 2015 to current date I am surprised they are not over 1000 to get a set.

About doing the Camera. I would make is simple and go with a Fused area. The other maybe a costly issue if things didn't work out just right when trying to remove a clip or something. Something that new wouldn't want things flopping around..

James,

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, last time I bought a service manual, it was for a 2006 around 2011, and it cost over $300.

Hate the idea of an exposed cable. Any ideas on how to remove the a-piller cover?

Thanks, Carl

Sorry I haven't seen a 17 model or had the pleasure of taking one apart. Seeing I don't do what I used to back a few years ago I am not sure I will know before others
