I have a 2015 LTZ. When I play a CD, the song title/author never show.
All I see is Track 1, track 2, etc.
It plays very well, but how do I get the titles to show?
Do I need a firmware upgrade or is there some button/setting I am missing?

Certain CD's have text embedded in them, most do not. I do not know if the CD player is designed to recognize CD-Text. I also do not know if it uses Gracenote to look up CD Titles or if it is only something that works with a XM or Onstar Subscription. Gracenote needs some kind of connection be it XM or through Onstar.

I found this on Page 26 of the Infotainment Manual
On the CD main page, a track
number displays at the beginning of
each track. Song, Artist, and Album
information displays when available.

I do not know if it refers to CD-Text which most CD's do not have or some kind of lookup via Gracenote. I have only used my CD player a few times and it never brought up any info, either when I still had Onstar & XM or without. I have not tried a known CD with CD-Text on it.

What is your other vehicle ? It has to have some way of looking it up in a database which requires some kind of connectivity. Chevrolet may not have implemented this feature because of the declining interest is CD's and focused more on Digital Players and Digital File playback. That is where the music industry is moving to. Auto manufacturers are starting to sell vehicles with out CD players at all due to the declining popularity of them. For many, the CD is going to go the way of the Cassette Tape.

I never buy MP3s. I'll buy the CD, rip it to FLAC then encode it to MP3. That way I have all the bits.

Would you buy software that was missing more than half of its 1s and 0s? :giggle:

The GM website implies that Gracenote only works with MP3/iPod/USB/SD card. It doesn't explicitly call out CDs at all in the Gracenote FAQ. But it doesn't mention them either.

And yes, it should play FLAC, but doesn't. Hell, my 8 year old Denon AVR can play FLAC. But my 2 year old car can't.

And bignick, I hate to break it to you, but in your example of CD -> FLAC -> MP3, you are losing bits in the last leg. You can minimize the loss with a 320 bitrate, but it's still lossy regardless. You probably know that. But the way you worded it, you are implying your method is creating 1:1 files, and that is not the case. And Bose had nothing to do with the actual MyLink software ability to play FLAC. Bose just does post processing of the audio. Blame GM/Panasonic/Bosch for the crappy software.

I would suggest converting over to high quality mp3 (320) and storing it all on either a decent sd card or usb flash drive. Make sure your files are all tagged correctly, then embed the album art and everything with your art will show up nicely on screen. Mp3tag is free and works, I know there are others too.

I put virtually all of my music on a 64GB SD card and that works great. The only time I play an actual CD is if I happen to buy a new one. The SD card is much more convenient and I get all of the artist/song info on the display.
