2017/2018 Impala SS?

So, whats the deal? My understanding the SS is dead after 2017. We have been considering the SS. But, would like to have the newer motor in it like the 2016 Camaro SS. Obviously not going to happen. Which brings me to the Impala SS. Is this thing confirmed or just a big rumor? If true. What year end model are we looking at? 2017, 2018?

2015 Impala 2LTZ
Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
35% Ceramic tint all around
All options excluding adaptive cruise & 20" wheels
OEM Accessories: Splash guards, Wheel locks, Spoiler, Impala license plate frames and All weather floor mats with cargo mat

Impala SS
There is no Impala SS, I have not even heard of a rumor of one. The only rumor I have heard of is that the Impala may not change for a while and may be even be discontinued by the end of it's product life cycle (2019-2020) A lot less full size family sedans are being sold and everybody is clamoring for more SUV's and Pickup Trucks The Chevrolet SS is disappearing after 2017 leaving Cadillac with the only performance sedans in the GM line up. Who knows, only time will tell. "The times, they are a changin'"

Unfortunately Crossovers and SUVs are the hot sellers. The Impala maybe doomed and discontinued after it's run as well.

I don't know - I see *PLENTY* of Honda and Toyota sedans on the road - it doesn't seem like they are struggling to sell full-size family sedans (using "full-size" loosely here).

So why is GM struggling with their family sedans?

Chevy is concentrating on the Mid-Sized sedan. The Malibu, even though it's almost the size of the Impala now. The Mid-Sized market is the prize but you face the Accord, Camry, Altima, etc... Chevy doesn't even bother advertising the Impala at all. I just wished GM would stop worrying about stepping on the toes of Buick and add All Wheel Drive to the Malibu and Impala. It's an option. Also Bring back the SS Trim to the Malibu and Impala as a High End Option.

I saw a newer Malibu yesterday from behind and could have sworn it was a new Impala! The only difference I noticed was that the Malibu was nicer looking at the bottom of the bumper (had a valance and the exhaust outlets just looked nicer). The trunk and brake lights looked exactly the same (at least from a quick glance). I actually thought that it was an Impala originally.

The 2 models seem so close now that I would agree that they'll probably drop the Impala soon...

IMO the new Malibu's arent the best looking, personally i think the Impalas are levels above the malibu. Test drove the malibu with the big 4 cyl turbo and it was 0 fun lol.

^ I don't think the Impala with the V6 is fun either. Just a all around quiet and great cruising car. Which it does best and what it is meant for. Also funny thing is. V6 Impala and new Malibu are on par with each other for 0-60 times.

Well My V6 Impala is pretty good on the highway. Plenty of power but not as quick as it should be because of the weight. I agree with Cleatus, AWD with a supercharged 3.6 would be killer. I like the look of the new Malibu but I like the Impala's sportier looking front end. But I think the Impala will be retired by 2020. Hard to believe we are almost there, seems like yesterday it was the year 2000
